England’s distinctive red-and-white St. George’s Cross and iconic union jack flags are making a comeback across the United Kingdom, with supporters calling the resurgence patriotic while critics in the media warn it shows extremism, echoing MAGA-like culture wars across the pond.
The dispute over the flag is the latest symbol of Britain’s political discourse, with Reform UK and Nigel Farage invoking U.S. President Donald Trump-style populism to rally Englishmen.
"Operation Raise the Colours" has called for people to put their flags up where they live and in their everyday lives to rally Britons. The online movement is encouraging people to continue putting up England St. George's Cross and union jack flags.
"Raise The Colours!," wrote MP for Newark, U.K. and Shadow Lord Chancellor Robert Jenrick on X. "While Britain-hating councils take down our own flags, we raise them up. We must be one country, under the Union Flag."
Tower Hamlets and Birmingham City Council recently decided to tear down English flags that had been hung up in the streets by patriotic supporters of the movement.
The government has not taken an official stance on "Operation Raise the Colours," but Downing Street has commented on putting up flags.
"Patriotism will always be an important thing to him," a spokesperson for Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer said.
Asked if Sir Keir is supportive of people who put up English flags, the spokesperson said: "Absolutely, patriotism, putting up English flags. We put up English flags all around Downing Street every time the English football team – women’s and men’s – are out trying to win games for us."
Some left-leaning outlets describe the campaign as zealousness, not patriotism. The Guardian cautioned the campaign "may offer cover for far-right agendas."

Remember when Commies tried disparaging the Betsy Ross flag and we told them to GF themselves? That’s how you deal with them. That’s the ONLY way to deal with them. Good on Brits for starting to wake up.

You just wait. Eventually displaying more than one St. George’s Cross flag or more than one Union Jack flag at an assembly will be declared a public order offense. Arrests will follow.
Meanwhile, King Charles and Queen Camilla play grab-ass at Buckingham Palace and pretend that there’s nothing wrong with the country.

Amazing how contagious it becomes when there’s a real leader out there. What’s next in ‘29? I think he’d be great to head the UN if it had some teeth but the job won’t be open. He could be the SOS under the next GOP administration meaning he won’t have to go away. That’s good. That job would have some real teeth.

Civil war would work. But that’s a risky and bloody business.
A better approach might be forced repatriation. Pay the invaders to leave. Expensive in the short term. A bargain in the long term.
The English are way past that. That would have worked when the Muslims were less than 1%. The only way out for England and Europe is decimation. Muslims will only be removed by “extreme” force.

King Charles III would presumably be against another English Civil War. As a result of the first Civil War, King Charles I got his head cut off. Charles I is not his direct ancestor but Charles I’s aunt is.
Charles III is a fool. He cannot save Britain. It’s just not in him. So either his successor William will save the nation or no one will save the nation.
Oh, and how do I know that Charles is a fool? I live in an old American rust-belt town. Back when Charles was the Prince of Wales he visited my town. The mayor asked the great man for advice. The steel mills are all gone. What should we do now?

When I was in graduate school, Charles came to my university and met with the History graduate students but only those specializing in British history. I saw him from a distance (I was in a library and could see him from a window)—he was being heckled by pro-IRA demonstrators.
