Summary

BERLIN/MILAN, Aug 21 (Reuters) - A Ukrainian man was arrested at a holiday bungalow in Italy on suspicion of coordinating attacks on three Nord Stream gas pipelines in 2022, officials said on Thursday, a breakthrough in an episode that sharpened tensions between Russia and the West.

Described by both Moscow and the West as an act of sabotage, the explosions largely severed Russian gas supplies to Europe, prompting a major escalation in the Ukraine conflict and squeezing energy supplies on the continent. No one has taken responsibility for the blasts and Ukraine has denied any role.

The arrest comes just as Kyiv is engaged in fraught diplomatic discussions with the United States over how to end thewar in Ukraine without giving away major concessions and swathes of its own territory to Russia.

"Politically we are firmly on Ukraine's side and will continue to be so," said Justice Minister Stefanie Hubig when asked if the arrest would affect Berlin's ties to Kyiv. "What is important for me is that Germany is a country of law, and crimes in our jurisdiction are fully investigated."

The suspect, identified only as Serhii K. under German privacy laws, was part of a group of people who planted devices on the pipelines near the Danish island of Bornholm in the Baltic Sea, a statement from the prosecutor's office said.

He and his accomplices had set off from Rostock on Germany's northeastern coast in a sailing yacht to carry out the attack, it said. The vessel had been rented from a German company with...

“Am I supposed to believe this?”

Maybe they see this as a way to deflect blame for the act of terrorism against the jointly owned pipeline. They see the writing on the wall in the Ukraine and soon it’ll be time to look at other things once the war is over, such as frozen funds and property of Russian citizens that was seized and sold in the name of sanction and well, cynical acts like using the interest on the money they took from Russia to send fund to their enemies.

Do remember the recording of senile Joe stating he will blow the Nordstream pipeline. What is so amazing is how the EU’s leadership allowed their own citizens to suffer, factories close, manufacturing go kaput…..Germany hit especially hard.

Why do they continue to commit Suicide?

“Why do they continue to commit Suicide?”

It referred to a previous investigation by USA Today, which concluded that “38 Russian businessmen and oligarchs close to the Kremlin died in mysterious or suspicious circumstances between 2014 and 2017.”[6] The phenomenon has been called “sudden Russian death syndrome” or “sudden oligarch death syndrome”, a play on sudden arrhythmic death syndrome.[7][8] A number of them died by falling from heights, including possibly being thrown out of windows.[8]

“Why do they continue to commit Suicide?”

“Latent suicides” include falls from heights, poisoning, and hanging with unspecified intent. They account for a significant proportion of suicide mortality. Since they are counted as events of undetermined intent, statistics show a sharp drop in suicide mortality rates, which has a linear trend [20]. This approach serves as a perfect example of data distortion practices. Moreover, there is no distinct updated information regarding suicides committed in Chechnya and in other North Caucasus republics. Yumaguzin (2019) indicated that suicide rates are significantly underestimated, while ill-defined causes of death are used to misinterpret data related to suicide and self-harming behaviors [19].
