MTG calls for property tax abolition, derides health insurance as 'giant scam'

Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia advocated for the abolition of property taxes and described health insurance as a big "scam."

"We need to completely abolish property taxes. It forces us to pay ‘rent’ to the government on property that we own, but if we don’t pay property taxes, the property that we own gets taken away from us. That should never happen in a free country," Greene declared in a post on X.

"Secondly, health insurance is a giant scam that has become completely unaffordable. And it doesn’t make any sense and I don’t know anyone, and I mean anyone, that supports the current healthcare system in the United States," she continued.

Didn’t like MTG at first, thought she was just a bomb throwing bubba chick. She’s grown into her position well since.

She’s been right on nearly everything lately.

ObamaCare was nothing but a big BJ for the insurance companies.

ObamaCare was nothing but a big BJ for the democrat constituency, a vote buying and retention scheme. Everything Dems do is about one thing, votes.

Indeed, medical costs keep going up, for individuals even when insured. At the same time, we lead the world in medical innovation because potential profits lie in creating it, we don’t have to wait for state-of-the-art treatment to nearly the degree people in other countries do, we have a certain amount of freedom (and free choice is a good thing) in choosing the kinds of treatment we want and the doctors we want, we even have much easier access to generic drugs than those in other wealthy countries, people who are poor frequently lose access to care that others access without difficulty (beyond what we pay willingly out of pocket), it’s all simultaneously true. We get what we get despite the fact that we have more chronic problems (stemming substantially although not exclusively from our higher rate of obesity, a problem drug companies are now starting to address with Ozempic and similar medicines, maybe a good thing and maybe not). and despite the fact that we drive cars a lot more than people in other wealthy countries, Canada perhaps excepted..

And the funny thing is, in the U.S. all of this is true at the seme time, What is more, the U.S. doesn’t really have a single health-care system, it has several.

So it’s complicated, isn’t it? What should we do then? Ms Taylor-Greene thinks she knows, but she likes to be in the media a lot, so perhaps we should discount the value of her wisdom accordingly.

No property tax could be considered if we didn’t tax the income of those without property.

And she’s right about health insurance. Total scam that is a drag on our economy and country.

Property tax is also a tax on Unrealized Gains. The same as if the government taxes the stocks I am holding, not selling.

Home owners are taxed twice. First, taxed yearly on what the government perceives your house to be worth, THEN taxed again when sold, on profits made over $250,000( from memory).

It is a scam on Americans. A relative had a house in Chicago, he finally moved out of state. He bought his house about thirty years ago, for $65,000. He sold it for $280,000. He thought he did well until I reminded him to add up all the taxes he paid over thirty years….it was well over $100,000…..then adding up the house insurance paid over thirty years….

I have “good” insurance (comparatively). Paying cash for some procedures (MRI’s, etc.) is cheaper than what you pay after applying insurance.

Health insurance is a problem in the sense that people won’t save money to pay medical bills. They will just show up to the hospital and expect to be treated. And, for better or worse, our society won’t accept the hospital just letting those people die.

It is similar for health insurance.

Remember our wonderful drugs for COVID? And nobody held accountable.

Exactly. I am getting soon a coronary calcium score out of pocket for $90. Still required a doctor order, so there’s still insurance and beaurocratic costs

Insurers are subsidized by Obama care. They need to dismantle it. I use concierge medical services, I love it. I keep a major medical plan , in case I get cancer or heart issues.

The left wants to confiscate all private property and wants the means of production to be owned by the collectivity.
It can’t do that just yet, so it does the next best thing: it taxes the hell out of them.

It imposes the “property tax” on anything substantial that you own: car, house, boat. It goes into your paycheck and takes whatever it wants before you even see a cent.

Been saying it for decades. It is unconscionable to tax a home!!

Government needs to spend far less money. The payroll transparency of government workers must end now!!

Medical costs rise because of insurance. It is how the insurance company sustains itself. Make medical costs unaffordable and set up monthly payments called premiums to lessen the burden.

Have you noticed the growth of all things medical since the inception of health insurance? Multiple times greater than the population growth.

Why is that?

Property tax is managed by the states.
Nice idea but its dead on arrival.

Property taxes do more to induce socialism than nearly any other thing, by allowing government to grow and grow and provide more and more “services” and social dependencies on said services until they become normalized. Unfortunately, they are in the domain of state and local governments who will not give them up without bloodshed, so no federal policy that I can see will change anything.

What is the voting turnout in local and state elections?

My cougar fetish.

A la Pat Buchanan. I don’t think so. She’d be out of politics in ‘29. Her TV appearances would be like those of Claire McKaskil-outside looking in.
