Ukraine Deputy Foreign Minister Mariana Betsa said in an interview with Scripps News, "Russia continues on a daily basis mass deportation of our children."
Since the start of the war in Ukraine, nearly 20,000 children have been forcibly taken to Russia or Belarus, according to the organization Bring Kids Back.
Only about 1,400 of those children have been returned to their families.
Now, with talks of a potential peace deal between Ukraine and Russia, officials in Ukraine are demanding that all of the kidnapped children be returned before any conditions are made.
"This is a human tragedy," said Ukraine Deputy Foreign Minister Mariana Betsa in an interview with Scripps News. "Russia continues on a daily basis mass deportation of our children. And it continues war crimes against our children. And they're just the most vulnerable group of our people."
Betsa said the pain parents suffer losing their children and the trauma the children endure is "unimaginable."
Once taken to Russia, the Ukrainian children have their "identity erased," are "brainwashed," and then put up for adoption with Russian families.

Vague recall that during the Turkeye negotiations, Russia asked for the names of the 20,000.
In the next round 350 names were provided. Russia claims it found about half of that 350 — in Germany as refugees with their family.
Ukraine wants them back so they can send them to frontlines.

Ukraine claims that Russia has forcibly deported nearly 20,000 children from occupied territories to Russia since the start of its full-scale invasion in February 2022.
Reports suggest that Russia has been systematically relocating Ukrainian children using various methods, including:
During “filtration” operations: Children are separated from their parents, interrogated, and some are deported to Russia, according to the U.S. Department of State.
From institutions: Children in Ukrainian care facilities located in occupied territories have been removed and transferred to Russia or Russian-controlled areas.
“Summer Camps”: Children were taken to camps in Russia and occupied Crimea under the guise of recreation, then indoctrinated with pro-Russian views and in some cases placed with Russian families or put up for adoption.
Once in Russia, these children are subjected to “re-education” efforts aimed at erasing their Ukrainian identity and instilling a Russian one.
This can include:
Forced Adoption: Many children have been placed in Russian families and given Russian citizenship, making it harder to track and return them to Ukraine.
Re-education Camps: Children have been subjected to Russian propaganda, including historical narratives and cultural instruction, and have even been forced into military-patriotic training.
These actions constitute violations of international humanitarian law and have been labeled as war crimes by the International Criminal Court (ICC). In March 2023, the ICC issued arrest warrants for Russian President Vladimir Putin and Russia’s Commissioner for Children’s Rights, Maria Lvova-Belova, on suspicion of war crimes related to the deportation of Ukrainian children.

Child trafficking in Ukraine was and prob remains a dark business. As is organ harvesting. Reportedly Russian troops in the LPR were horrified at some of the child “ facilities” they uncovered
Russia Evacuating orphans and abandoned kids from the destroyed villages of the war zones is not “ kidnapping” . And since those regions were annexed by Russia, the Russian legal system prevails.
A kid from the town orphanage (in the Soviet style system of orphanage institutions ) may be a true orphan, may have been taken by the govt for protective guardianship and care due to neglect, abandonment, abuse or other inability of parents to provide care, or may have been relinquished to state care by parents in poverty or by families with no means or wish to raise those children. Most were and are run like boarding schools. The kids are pretty helpless without families to advocate for them.
Ukrainian nationalists have already classified these kids ( and most of the residents of Donbass) as subhuman based on their Russian ethnicism. They face a very perilous risk if returned to Uke authorities,
The USA should absolutely NOT swallow the Ukrainian propo on this ( Melania please STOP …please let US intel clue her in) and Russia should NOT be sending any minors back into Ukraine unless a valid family relationship is confirmed ( DNA if possible). If there are families that want to claim these kids…let them be identified and vetted.
Similarly the Donbass children collected from villages by the SBU affiliated “ White Angels” and sent westward,,,,to ?….should be thoroughly tracked and reunited with Donbass relatives.
A big ask is…why did Zelensky appoint the Podestas’ spirit cooker satanist “ performance artist” Martina Abramovic as Ukraine Ambassador for children and the rebuilding of “ schools”. A BIG ASK.
