The most complicated situation has been reported in the city of Valjevo, Serbia’s Interior Minister Ivica Dacic said
BELGRADE, August 17. /TASS/. Mass riots took place late on Saturday night in a number of cities in Serbia, rioters attacked police officers, set fire to and destroyed offices of government agencies and political parties, Serbia’s Interior Minister Ivica Dacic stated.
According to the minister, the most complicated situation has been reported in the city of Valjevo, where up to 4,000 people participated in protest actions. The offices of the Serbian Progressive Party were vandalized and set on fire.
"Fortunately, there was no one inside [the premises]," Dacic said. "Given the fact that the facility serves both as a residential and office building where people reside, a fire could have endangered their lives."
According to the local police reports, some 1,300 people participated in protests across Belgrade and they cast Molotov cocktails at law enforcement officers.
Up to 500 protesters gathered in Novi Sad, where the 50-meter-long concrete roof above the entrance of the railway station in Serbia’s second-largest city collapsed in 2024 killing 15 people.
"The police stepped in and restored public order in Novi Sad, Belgrade and Valjevo," Serbia’s top interior official added.
According to him, a police officer was injured in Valjevo, while a total of 18 rioters were reported to be detained.

Protesting what? The article never says but apparently 4,000 folks were mighty peeved.
Didn’t say why the protests. Said supporters of the SPP. Is that a leftist group?
I found it. They are , as usual, progressive socialists probably being whipped up by european progressives.

Cue the stories from the alarmist media that the Serbs are about to start another world war, especially with “war monger” Trump.
Fed up with progressives?
Why am I not shocked? I hope they put these crumb bums down like the rabid skunks they are.
Has anyone spotted Victoria Nuland or Samantha Power prowling around Serbia?
Oh wait, Trump defunded USAID.
Never mind.
Didn’t someone long ago say something to the effect that the US should avoid foreign entanglements?
Let the euro-trash deal with THEIR problems.

Now shut up and eat your Borscht !!!
Borscht (English: /ˈbɔːrʃt/ ⓘ) is a sour soup, made with meat stock, vegetables and seasonings, common in Eastern Europe and Northern Asia. In English, the word borscht is most often associated with the soup's variant of Ukrainian origin, made with red beetroots.

Post Djindjic there was a political struggle between "reformists" like Djindjic and the "radical ultranationalists" (i.e. Serbian MAGA). Party politics is extremely complicated. Socialist / Progressives took over in 2012 and maintained power in a 2023 snap election but now they are "right wing" under Vucic. The pro-Euro parties are agitating and it's about time for another color revolution. There's also a split on the right over Kosovo with Vucic wanting to normalize relations and recognize the NATO-created "country", so that will help provide more chaos.
I'm mystified by a lot of it, but suffice to say "right wing" populism / nationalism gets a lot of support in Russia, Serbia, Romania, etc just like it does here and color revolutions, George Floyd protests, pandemics, NATO bombing, media propaganda and censorship are all tools to keep the power in the hands of the globalists (mainly international corporate interests)

I wonder if they could use some of America’s excess foreign “Dipstick judges”. We’ve got dumpster loads of them.
The news is not just from Russian agencies. Examples:
' " Clashes erupted at protests in Serbia between opponents and supporters of the government in an escalation of tensions following more than nine months of persistent demonstrations against populist President Aleksandar Vucic."To place the above in context, the last election in Serbia was 17 December 2023. "Serbia's police used tear gas and crowd control vehicles on Friday evening in Belgrade to disperse anti-government protesters who threw firecrackers and flares at police officers in a third day of clashes. The unrest marked a serious escalation of months of student-led protests that have challenged President Aleksandar Vucic’s hold on power."

"While anti-corruption demonstrations have drawn in hundreds of thousands of protestors, they had been largely peaceful until Wednesday's clash, when pro-government loyalists staged counter-demonstrations. On Saturday night, riot police were again deployed in a number of cities including Belgrade as people took part in demonstrations to demand early elections."

Vučević' vote count was 48% of a split ballot, with 10 parties vying. The various socialists, who had held power before him, got about 35% between two competing parties.
So about twenty months into the current government's term, those "students" are demanding new elections.
There is a massive lithium mine being set up in Serbia that was opposed by the a lot of people who claim their sovereignty is being stripped in favor of foreign/EU interests. The Serb government rejected the mining license, the courts overruled them and the project is moving forward.
The protests against the lithium mine kicked off in July 2024 and were ongoing when there was a structural failure of a canopy at the Novi Sad railway which killed 16 people in Nov 2024. New protests against the government broke out after that.
Hard to say whether there is foreign agitation but the likelihood of EU meddling is pretty high...they want their lithium.

If you want a very rough analogy with Serbia today: think Ukraine in 2013.
In 2013, Ukraine's Russian-stooge President Yanukovych revealed his true colors, after years of pretending to be pro-Europe, he cancelled a proposed trade deal with the EU in favor of one with Russia.
The result was the Euro-Maidan Revolt which let to Yanukovych fleeing to Moscow to invite mad-Vlad Putin to invade Crimea.
In Serbia, the ruling majority Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) is pro-Russia, but plays the European Union game too, applying for membership, sort-of.
Serbia's SNS has negotiated for EU membership since January 2014, and while the EU is willing, Serbia is dragging its feet.
Most, but not all, Serbian opposition parties are more pro-Europe than the Serbian Progressive Party, but even combined, opposition parties are not a majority of Serbs.
So, the growing protest demonstrations, which recently included 300,000 total, are intended to force Serbia's SNS President Vučić to call snap elections, which may result in a realignment of parties in the government.
By the way, for anyone overly concerned with the name "Serbian Progressive Party", think "democratic" as in "Peoples Democratic Republic of...".
Such words don't mean the same things in different countries.
