The Democrat will run for the seat held by GOP. Sen Jon Husted, who was appointed to serve the remainder of Vice President JD Vance's term.
Former Sen. Sherrod Brown has decided to run for the Senate next year in Ohio, according to three sources familiar with his plans, potentially putting the Republican-leaning state in play for Democrats.
Brown lost his race for a fourth term last year by about 3.5 percentage points as President Donald Trump carried Ohio by 11 points. But a midterm year is typically tougher for the president's party, and Democrats have been aggressively recruiting Brown to run in the special election to serve the remainder of Vice President JD Vance’s Senate term against Sen. Jon Husted, the former lieutenant governor whom Gov. Mike DeWine appointed to Vance’s seat.

Going to campaign on the Mamdani line.
DEI? What are odds one is gay, black?
this is why I hate when presidents picks senators for any position in their administration.
Both Brown and Ryan are more or less old school liberal democrats who in the past have coasted on the strength of labor inertia and weak opponents. But over time since each of them gained elective office Ohio has shifted significantly red. Neither has a strong personal presence. Ryan would probably be more popular but it looks like the party will make him defer to Brown.
Husted has been low profile since appointment to Vance’s seat, but has the advantage of running on Trump’s record of success in a proTrump state. Frankly I don’t see a path for Brown to win, given that he will have to endorse some pretty unpopular leftist/wokish policies.
Ohio has a substantial urban black voter bloc so a statewide race is never easy; and I doubt Trump’s inroads into the black vote will transfer readily. But right now I would bet on Husted.
He’s dusting off the ole yellow hard hat again.
Well, hinkley buzzard, yours is a sound, solid response.
Mine was going to be more along the lines of...Brown is (and always has been) a lousy commie libturd a$$hat.
I like yours better...
