Despite President Donald Trump’s decision to federalize the Washington D.C. police force and deploy the National Guard to fight violent crime in the nation’s capital, he cannot deliver on his threat to do the same in Chicago, state and local officials said Monday.
“If we need to, we’re going to do the same thing in Chicago, which is a disaster. We have a man there who’s totally incompetent. He’s an incompetent man,” Trump said, referring to Mayor Brandon Johnson.
“And we have an incompetent governor there. Pritzker is an incompetent,” Trump added, referring to Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker. And now I understand he wants to be president. But I noticed he lost a little weight, so maybe he has a chance. You never know what happens, but Pritzker’s a grossly incompetent guy.”
Pritzker said it’s not surprising that Trump would suggest “violating the law” after sending “National Guard troops into Los Angeles illegally.”
“I talked about the fact that the Nazis in Germany in the `30’s tore down a constitutional republic in just 53 days,” the governor said, reiterating the comparison he made in his budget address. “It does not take much, frankly, and we have a president who seems hell-bent on doing just that.”

I don’t see how Trump can take over Chicago, but it should be good rhetoric.
Assuming success in DC, it will be harder for mayors to ignore the contrast, their voters will notice and start voicing their pent up frustration at what they are enduring, as they see what is possible.
Does not matter what the Gov says.
Chicago does not have narrative fear pumped out by fake news, clearing the way for gubmint tryants
Chicago has real fear, Citizens looking for help
President Trump offers help, t5hat first step is a win for the Republic
I think he’s trolling Illinois to bring to light the disastrous crime going on there. This gets headlines.
Trump knows he cannot do it in Chicgongo. It is a pretty good propaganda move
I think he’s trolling Illinois - but it will get folks talking about the crime and how the democrats aren’t doing anything about it.
Recall Obama/Holder took over police forces thru court injunctions that stipulated an appointed judge set and manage criteria for departmental “reform”.
Seattle was one such city and only recently was able to end that.
Trump should avoid taking on burdens that have no political upside.
I think the last Republican mayor of Chicago held office 94 years ago.
> I don’t see how Trump can take over Chicago… <
He could federalize the Illinois National Guard, and the Guard of some neighboring states if necessary. But what would the exit strategy be?
Armed Guardsmen with arrest powers would tamp down crime. But can they stay forever? Because the instant they leave, everything would be back to normal.
It’s really up to the city and state to solve Chicago’s problems. But as Trump noted, those folks are hopelessly incompetent.
What a mess.
Chicago Dems will fight tooth and nail to protect criminals. Chicago voters will complain about crime, then vote Dem anyway.
We like our crime and violence and no one is taking it away from us!
The National Guard should march into the “halls of power” in DC, Chicago, NY City and other Democrat hell holes and eliminate the problem without mercy.
It would actually be better for the other dems in the NYC mayor race to use Brandon Johnson as a role model for what happens when you choose poorly. But then, the other choices would only be better by comparison.
> Going into Chicago would be easy. Getting out would look like getting out of Iraq or Afghanistan. <
Yep. And what happens when the first Guardsman gets shot? Because that will happen.
You better watch out for
The eggplant that chicago
Trump will find a way
This is hilarious. Trump has the governor of Illinois basically saying he prefers high crime and won’t do anything about it. Face it: if violent crime was greatly reduced, people wouldn’t be calling for the government to “do something”, and handing over their rights to unscrupulous leaders.
Why do blue cities and states continue electing incompetent governance?
One definition of insanity: "Doing the Same Thing Over and Over Again and Expecting Different Results."
You would think that at some point voters would realize that the democrat party is failing them. Sadly, they will continue to vote democrat based on lies, emotions and promises that are never met. Here's a picture of what democrat voters experience on a daily basis:
