Sir Keir Starmer’s plan for the Chagos Islands will cost 10 times more than he said, according to official figures.

The Government’s own estimate for handing over the British Indian Ocean Territory to Mauritius is almost £35bn, documents released under the Freedom of Information Act show – far higher than the £3.4bn figure Sir Keir has cited in public.

There is the answer. The reason for other developments is that Diego Garcia is being taken away by the Brit Labor Party.

At present, the runways at the Island of Tinian are being refurbished by Sea Bees. An effort of unknown magnitude is in process to develop another air base in the Marianas.

Similarly, the former US Naval base at Subic Bay is reoccupied and a major new base for not only American but several other navies is being developed.

The Labor led UK is not presently an American friend.

The Chagos islands are part of British overseas territories.
Basically the pitiful reminds of the British colonial empire.
They are leased to the US for military base.

Now, somehow, the British decided to give it to Mauritius (far, far away), but then rent it back from them for 99 years!

So, practically, nothing changed, but Mauritius got a lot of money from GB.
