GPT-5 Launch: OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has predicted that India could become the artificial intelligence (AI) giant's largest market globally. Altman made this statement as OpenAI launched its next-generation model, ChatGPT-5. Currently, India is the company’s second-largest market after the United States. Moreover, the CEO praised Indians as “remarkable” in their use of AI.

“It’s incredibly fast-growing, but what users are doing with AI — what citizens of India are doing — is really quite remarkable,” Altman said during the launch of GPT-5, the latest version of the AI system that powers ChatGPT. He also stated that the company is working with local partners to make its products more effective and affordable for Indian users, adding that he plans to visit the country in September.

Open AI Partnership With IndiaAI Mission In June, OpenAI, in collaboration with the Government of India’s IndiaAI Mission, launched ‘OpenAI Academy India’, marking the platform’s first international expansion. The initiative aims to enhance access to AI education and tools by leveraging India’s thriving developer community, robust digital infrastructure, and growing startup ecosystem.

GPT‑5 is available to all users, with Plus subscribers receiving greater usage and Pro subscribers gaining access to GPT‑5 Pro — a version featuring extended reasoning for even more comprehensive and accurate answers.

“GPT‑5 is a unified system featuring a smart, efficient model for most queries, a deeper reasoning model (GPT‑5 Thinking) for more complex problems, and a real‑time router that decides which to use based on conversation type, complexity, tool needs, and user intent,” the company explained.

If it can't answer your question, it will respond by saying Oooh, but I am not knowing

It is my understanding that GPT-5 is smarter and more accurate than GPT-4, with better reasoning, fewer mistakes/hallucinations, a bigger memory for long conversations, and automatic switching between quick answers and deep analysis (as needed).

It is also said to be significantly improved for math, coding, writing, science, medical/healthcare, etc.

According to this report, India has already surpassed the US in number of users:
India Surpasses US as Largest ChatGPT User Base, Report Finds

India has overtaken the United States to become the world’s largest user base for ChatGPT, accounting for 13.5% of global monthly active users, according to the latest AI Trends Report by Mary Meeker. India leads in ChatGPT mobile usage, followed by the United States at 8.9%. Other top countries include Indonesia, Brazil, Egypt, Mexico, Pakistan, Germany, France, and Vietnam. Such widespread adoption indicates that there's a global surge in interest for AI tools like ChatGPT, spanning not just major tech hubs but also emerging markets.

Why is OpenAI, an American company, giving financial breaks to our competition? Why do they get preferential treatment over those who live in the USA?

more effective and affordable for Indian users

It's a company, not the government. All companies that sell internationally adapt their products and services to the countries they sell to.

Chatgpt is fascinated by the concept of unaligned emergent coherence, which occurs in the gap, on the edge.

I understand.

But AI is different. There’s no reason OpenAI should give such tech to a different country at a discount.

You raise a valid point. I think Altman means local partners such as the IndiaAI Mission would help subsidize the price to make it more accessible for Indian consumers.

Isn’t Mali almost completely Muslim? If so, I think it’s beyond help.
