Zelenskiy wins EU, NATO backing as he seeks place at Trump-Putin talks

Summary

Aug 10 (Reuters) - Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy won diplomatic backing from Europe and the NATO alliance on Sunday ahead of a Russia-U.S. summit this week where Kyiv fears Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump may try to dictate terms for ending the 3-1/2-year war.

Trump, who for weeks had been threatening new sanctions against Russia for failing to halt the war, announced instead on Friday that he would meet Putin on August 15 in Alaska.

A White House official has said Trump is open to Zelenskiy attending but preparations are underway for only a bilateral meeting.

The Kremlin leader last week ruled out meeting Zelenskiy, saying conditions for such an encounter were "unfortunately still far" from being met.

Trump said a potential deal would involve "some swapping of territories to the betterment of both (sides)", compounding Ukrainian fears that it may face pressure to surrender land.

Zelenskiy says any decisions taken without Ukraine will be "stillborn" and unworkable. On Saturday the leaders of Britain, France, Germany, Italy, Poland, Finland and the European Commission said any diplomatic solution must protect the security interests of Ukraine and Europe.

"The U.S. has the power to force Russia to negotiate seriously," EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas said on Sunday. "Any deal between the U.S. and Russia must have Ukraine and the EU included, for it is a matter of Ukraine’s and the whole of Europe’s security."

EU foreign ministers will meet on Monday to discuss next steps, she said.

So these folks couldn’t arrange a meeting with Putin but Pres. Trump could but now they want to say how it is run. If I were Pres. I would withdraw all US funds spent on defending the EU. They are all probably going to be part of Islam’s one world Caliphate under Sharia Law anyway.

I finally figured out this little shits problem:

Histrionic (Attention seeking) behavior, often associated with Histrionic Personality Disorder (HPD), is characterized by excessive emotionality and attention-seeking behavior. Individuals with HPD crave being the center of attention and may act in ways that are inappropriately seductive or provocative to gain it.

Thank God it’s set in such a remote location that Zelensky and his delusional EU chickenhawks who refuse to accept it’s militarily Unwinnable and demographically disastrous to Ukraine to continue killing……. can be kept away while the adults work out a deal.

This meeting is dead on arrival. Trump should tell all of them he is finished with them. Don’t call me, I’ll call you.

If EU wants war to win back Donbass and the Crimea, then they have to begin the sacrifices required. The need to be ready to send their sons and daughters to die, to draft them tomorrow, and start training them for that. They need to invest in the infrastructure that makes them serious military powers. And not buying gas from Russia would also be a mark of increased seriousness.

As it stands now, what they want and what they are willing to do appears to be worlds apart.

It is exceptionally retarded for Europe to buy shiploads of American LNG at 3x the price of limitless and cheap natural gas a stones throw away in an adjacent European country. Europe has been in recession for three years now because of this stupidity. This is the RAND corporation and assorted neocon think tanks in action-a blueprint to collapse Europe and force its capital to fly to North America to prop up the dollar for a few more years. That’s ultimately why the CIA created the Maidan colour revolution in Ukraine to overthrow the democraticallyelected and Russia friendly government. Can’t have peace between nations now, can we? Before then Europe was peacefully trading with Russia and thriving economically- now it’s spiralling into dictatorship .

What you are saying is that the EU should welcome Russian occupation. Why? Because it’s occupation of Eastern Europe during the cold war was so benign and so great for the people of Poland, East Germany, Romania etc?

I would leave it up to Europeans. If they have enough remaining cultural confidence to reject Russian rule, then they have to do the things that prevent Russian rule. That includes lots of soldiers and the things that soldiers use. It also includes not becoming dependent on Russia for critical inputs.
