The Mexican government is owned by the Cartels.
Best thing that could be done is our moving into Mexico and utterly destroying every single cartel.
Going to be a long hard fight.
Its been done before.
Please, President Trump. No boots on the ground. Too much opportunity for mission creep there. But drone strikes? Sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do.
And there’s plenty of plausible deniability with drone strikes. Hey, a cartel’s warehouse just blew up. Probably a natural gas leak.
(But of course the cartel leader would know. FAFO.)
Makes me wonder if some USA special forces have already begun. May God bless and keep them safe
The NYT made this up for a slow news day. The left makes everything up now.
She is saving her own life. And, she is telling the truth...(sort of), there won’t be any “invasion” just covert operations, and she will either deny any knowledge of them, or publicly criticize them. It’s been proven that politicians are exceptionally vulnerable to assassination in Mexico, so she has to watch what she says...
I suspect covert intel ops have been mapping out cartel operations.
All Western / democratic governments are “owned” by those with the money.
Even here in the US: pharma, war industrial complex, big tech, big banks...
A simple, funny, but very real example: https://hls.harvard.edu/today/harvard-law-i-p-expert-explains-how-disney-has-influenced-u-s-copyright-law-to-protect-mickey-mouse-and-winnie-the-pooh/
It’s real simple to understand: the political apparatus in ALL western democracy’s runs on money. Those with the money have a disproportionate influence on government: campaigns cost money. Political parties cost money. PAC’s cost money. Lobbying costs money. The media is bought with money. Big tech is all about money. Legal litigation is all about money. Buying politicians (making them and their family rich by buying their art, donating to a foundation, hiring their relatives or giving them some extra ordinary business deal) costs money.
Sometimes when politicians get bought, it’s really obvious: https://www.cbsnews.com/news/rick-perrys-gardasil-u-turn-heres-what-actually-happened-back-in-2007/ (You donate to his campaign - he makes your vaccine mandatory in public schools).
Is this corrupt (in the sense that the greater public is not served but rather a small special interest at the EXPENSE to the public)? Sure.
But it’s a trait that ALL democracies with elections share and we like to point out in others, but do not see in ourselves.
Wonder if Claudia might change her mind when the cartels start to take over the gov’t and gain control of the Mex. military???
####################
Yep. Just keep doing these until the flow stops. "Lotta dangerous chemicals these drug cartels are using. Accidents happen."
I agree.
We have to focus on the enemies within first, though.
I was watching Ozark last night; it’s not far off. Neither is Queen of the South... someone has some Intel for these shows.
Scary stuff.
> Can you explain what the “mission creep” in Mexico would allegedly be? <
It well could be something like what we saw in Vietnam and then in Afghanistan. Put boots on the ground to pacify an area. Well, okay. But then those troops would need a base.
And you would need to keep that base secure by occasionally sweeping the nearby countryside. Can’t let the bad guys get too close, and engage in sniping and such.
Then next thing you know…
Don’t get me wrong. I’m not saying that must happen in Mexico. But I am saying it’s a risk not worth taking in the era of pinpoint accurate drones.
” Neither is Queen of the South”
That’s a rough one.
“The United States is not going to come to Mexico with the military. That is ruled out, absolutely ruled out,”
LOL
I think it’s referred to as ‘Clear and Present Danger’...
Nuking the cartels is a nice idea. At the same time, it is incumbent on the US to curtail demand. The entire supply industry is ruining places like Honduras, where the homicide rate is about 45x the US average, courtesy of the drug trade, which uses it as a breakbulk facility. And that is folks in the US making the discretionary choice to use drugs.
Can you imagine the real estate possibilities after Trump and Congress annexes Baja Mexico as compensatory damages? In 10 years, we have a new state of South California. It will go well the new former Canadian provinces of Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba. The rest of Canada will be sucked in within 50 years, and then we’re looking at the USNA (United States of North America)
Prime ocean front real estate for development on both sides of the peninsula! Excellent!
Ghe drug trade exists because Americans want “cheap” thrills.
“But drone strikes? Sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do.”
For Trump the Iran strikes set a precedent. If it is a critical problem I believe he believes he can remote strike anywhere in the world - within reasonable limitations of course.
