I heard an awful ring of familiarity in the testimony this week from a woman who endured a brutal knife attack in a Tacoma park. Why did she think the suspect targeted her that day, the prosecutor asked.

She was flagrantly flaunting her white privilege in public, so a California judge will rule that the attack was provoked.

The best defense against a knife attack is a bullet. Better yet, multiple bullets.
If I were writing the article I would have added that she has the right to defend her own life with the best available means.
Which I would suggest is a firearm.

We all want to protect women and we better continue to do so, but if you think deeply about this and look at real life, females are not at special danger, it is just that all of us are more concerned about them, more protective of them, we worry more about their safety.
Men pay dearly for being out in the world, death, maiming, brutality, injuries, muggings, beatdowns, fist fights, knifings, shootings, it is inconceivable that in any society, anywhere in the world, at any time in history, for any race or peoples, that the females would suffer all that at a 50% to 54% rate.

Yet that is exactly what she was.
Why did the suspect target her? That’s an easy one. Because he knew she was likely unarmed.
Too many of “you” (I assume she means women) face the danger because California voted in politicians who enacted liberal law enforcement policies that make it low to zero consequences for a thug who wants to beat up or rape women on the jogging trail.
The time has come for extremely severe punishment for the perpetrators of attacks against persons. I mean the death penalty, and it must be applied within months.

I’m a big believer in the buddy system for women. I’ll bet the stats on assaults like this comparing attacks on a lone woman vs. a pair would be eye opening.
This is exactly why I hike with two large dogs - one a police dog/pit bull mix, the other a large chow-chow/retriever mix who would give her life to protect us. I think both know they were rescued and given a second chance at life.
There are times I’ve had my hand on the release latches on their vests - to let them go in a second when I’ve felt threatened while hiking.
I’ve also considered carrying more and more frequently when I walk.
Was he let go with “$0 cash bail?”
This is California after all...
I swear if I saw that on the hiking trail, I’d immediately unleash my two large dogs.
