The Sad, Pathetic End of Howard Stern
PJ Media ^ | 08/07/2025 | Scott Pinsker

It wasn’t supposed to be like this.

A big, explosive controversy that’s impossible to ignore! A jaw-dropping confession that outraged his corporate bosses! Or maybe he’d finally suffer the consequences of speaking “truth to power” — and pay the ultimate price for refusing to back down!

That’s how “The Howard Stern Show” was supposed to end.

This November marks the 100th anniversary of TS Eliot’s haunting poem, “The Hollow Men.” It’s a telling coincidence, for it foretold not just the fate of the world, but of a certain shock-jock: “This is the way the [Howard Stern Show] ends; Now with a bang but a whimper.”

This week, the news broke:

BREAKING: Howard Stern’s show is now being canceled by SiriusXM.

But calling it a whimper would be an overstatement. It was more of a “tree falling in a forest when no one’s around” situation, because Howard Stern’s audience abandoned him years ago: "Stern’s program has fluctuated from 20 million daily to just 125,000 of late."

That’s an astonishing fall from grace. There are, quite literally, thousands of nameless, faceless YouTubers, TikTokers, X posters, and “influencers” with far larger audiences than the one-time “King of All Media.” During his heyday, 20 million Americans famously listened to Howard Stern to “see what he says next”:

And now he’s a nobody.

Of course, he’s a very wealthy nobody. If your bank account is the only litmus test that matters, then Howard Stern is the greatest, most successful radio personality of all time. He made more money than everyone else, including Rush Limbaugh.

I hope he is gone for good this time. I listened to him a bit back when he was in DC in the early 1980s before he got political. He lost me forever with his stupid joke about the Air Florida crash in DC.

Yeah. I’m sure he’s having trouble sleeping at night in his pile of cash.

The highest closing price for Sirius XM (SIRI) stock was $665.00 on February 17, 2000. This occurred before the merger of Sirius and XM satellite radio. The current stock price (as of August 4, 2025) is $21.62

I remember that. He was such a nasty pos with a complete lack of empathy. And he truly seems to hate God. A lowlife.

BREAKING: Howard Stern’s show is now being canceled by SiriusXM.

They finally listened to me and I assume others. This clown is the epitome of AHO. The stockholders in Sirius should be suing the BOD of misappropriation of dollars paying this loudmouth lowlife scum the vast sums he has been paid for years. Talk about failure to follow their fiduciary responsibilities to the stockholders, they have grossly overpaid for gutter content. The only thing that would be saving here would be if they loaded Stern into their future deployment of a satellite, a one way mission.

Sad-pathetic? Come on! Crying all the way to the bank.

I agree.

Celebrity haters always gloat about them being "washed-up has beens" after their careers are over.

But everyone's career comes to an end.

The only difference: some people retire into poverty, some into financial security, and some into extreme wealth.

Stern is one of the reasons I dumped Sirius/XM, I didn’t want a penny of my money going to him.

The other was their poor sound quality.

See, this is what happens when you get rich and forget your roots. First of all, Stern is and always has been a sneering jackass. That's what a jackass does. He sneers at people and brays. So Stern is a world class jackass, and they paid him well for it. Stern started enjoying the attention at the schmooze party's that he used to get paid to sneer at. He would get the wrong kind of attention at those parties if he continued to play for the audience that he was paid to talk to. So he changed. He chose to start sneering at the people who paid him so that he could be popular at the schmooze party's. And that is how you shrink your audience. Now the only people who listen to him are the tiny group of 125,000 in the entire world that share his viewpoints, and that are monitoring to make sure he doesn't step out of line.

I dare say that number is suspiciously similar to the size of the group that is pulls the strings of the global reich.

I’m proud to say that I never once intentionally listened to him. The few times I inadvertently heard him speaking, he reminded me of a junior high child who just learned how to cuss. I immediately changed the channel.

Yes, it was insanity.

Rush Limbaugh’s last radio show was on Feb. 2, 2021. Since then, his legacy has grown even larger: He remains the most beloved, respected, and admired conservative media personality in U.S. history. If anything, El Rushbo’s absence has made us appreciate his contributions that much more.

Never listened or subscribed to Stern
My Maine family listened to Rush from the truck radio while raking blueberries

Stephen Colbert - who will be canceled next year - has the same huge staffing issue that Stern had.

According to several sources, the Colbert show has more than 90 full time employees.

By comparison, the Greg Gutfeld Show, in the same time slot at Fox News, and crushing Colbert every night with twice as many viewers, has 15 full time employees.

Howard always impressed me as the nasty little boy with the stinky finger who never grew beyond that.
