Despite the promise of talks, many Ukrainians expressed fear that the White House was again being strung along by the Kremlin.
“Of course, we shouldn’t take all this as a prelude to the end of the war,” Volodymyr Fesenko, a Ukrainian political analyst, wrote in a social media post, echoing a widely held view. “On Putin’s part, this could be another insidious maneuver,” he added.
Mr. Fesenko said that Mr. Putin’s approach could range from “imitating real negotiations to trying to lure Trump into a negotiating trap in order to sell him a ‘softened’ version of peace on Russian terms, which will then be imposed on President Zelensky and Ukraine.”
The latest developments, Mr. Fesenko added, were a “glimmer of a changing (and possibly deceptive) light at the end of a dangerous negotiation tunnel.”
Mr. Zelensky scheduled calls with leaders across Europe on Thursday as he sought to present a united front with allies before any summit.

Right up there with Walter Duranty’s “reportink” on The Ukraine...
Putin is a vile human. Anyone not skeptical of Putin’s intentions is a fool.
With Peace, the current government of Ukraine ceases to exist
Any current member of the Democrat Party is far more damaging to America than Putin.
Of course Putin is trying to string Trump along. Of course Trump knows this.
It’s up to Trump whether a ceasefire is called. Putin’s demands are for Ukraine to exit its troops from all the areas Russia now claims (Kerson ect) and no NATO membership. Otherwise this war will continue until Ukraine completely folds (and this is only months if not weeks away).
Another permutation of the ubiquitous anonymous source.
Either the NYT is making sh*t up again, or it's a press handout from Zeleskyy's henchmen. Or both.
I’m amazed at the amount of projection going on here.
The posters absorb Gaslight Mainstream Media press releases, and conjure up fiction stories in their minds about what’s going on, depending upon their educational background and what kind of claptrap they’ve previously been fed..
“Any current member of the Democrat Party is far more damaging to America than Putin.”
It’s funny how effective the Western Media is, even with people ON THIS SITE.
What? The Ukrainians are skeptical of 47 falling in love again with his beloved best buddy, Putin? Shocking!
“Any current member of the Democrat Party is far more damaging to America than Putin.”
Amen to that.
“What? The Ukrainians are skeptical of 47 falling in love again with his beloved best buddy, Putin? Shocking!”
Either that or learning the non-Neocon reasons the war started.
Will the Europeans sabotage any peace agreement like they have twice before?
Of course. Neither Russia nor Ukraine will be allowed to end this war.
“Of course. Neither Russia nor Ukraine will be allowed to end this war.”
Only Russia will end the war from its side, but you’re right regarding Ukraine - the ONLY OBJECTIVE for the Europeans is to drag-out the war through the end of Trump’s term and then hope whoever comes next will end the implied threat of removing US troops from Europe.
No, the fake "Ukrainians" in the fake NY Times fiction piece are skeptical of 47 falling in love again with his beloved best buddy, Putin.
Keep plugging away, PIFfy - all the Ukrainians aren't dead yet.
Free Republic features a number of TDS sorts, among them being PIF.

"47, making Russia great again."And Speedy, whom some Freepers thought was zotted, posted to the same long thread only yesterday. Ah, alternatives. Like "working both sides of the street."18,963 posted on 8/7/2025, 8:36:36 AM by PIF
The above on the longest running thread on FR, begun by "nuclear war" SpeedyInTexas, on 2/24/2024.
“Neither Russia nor Ukraine will be allowed to end this war.”
Trump is not going to be allowed to end this war either. The global MIC corporations, the uniparty, and CIA will make sure of it in some manner. Even if it takes a false flag to do it. Even if it means taking Trump out to do it. And if by some miracle Trump is able to do it they will just make sure a war just as big will be created somewhere else. The war is business is no good without a market even if they have to create a new one.
