Obama calls Texas GOP’s actions a ‘power grab that undermines our democracy’

Former President Obama on Tuesday blasted the Texas GOP’s attempts to redraw the Lone Star State’s congressional lines as “a power grab” that threatens democracy.

“We can’t lose focus on what matters – right now, Republicans in Texas are trying to gerrymander district lines to unfairly win five seats in next year’s midterm elections. This is a power grab that undermines our democracy,” Obama said in a post on the social platform X.

The former president shared a post from All On The Line, a campaign affiliated with the National Democratic Redistricting Committee (NDRC), promoting a virtual event on redistricting.

Your side lost. Democracy would be voting, not running away from democracy.

He needs start talking under oath. He has immunity, can’t invoke the 5th and has to tell the truth.
If he’s going think “I don’t recall” is going to work when they read back his statements and testimony of whistleblowers, he’s going to be in more trouble.

The semiliterate affirmative-action DEI hire and overall buffoon weighs in again on something, like everything else he’s weighed in on, that he knows nothing about.

“””He needs start talking under oath. He has immunity,””

He has immunity for things he did while in office if they were legal actions. He has no immunity for continuing the conspiracy after he left office or if his actions in office were illegal....according to prosecutors/lawyers I have watched.

How can Democrats be intellectually honest when discussing gerrymandering?

Consider 3 key states:

California , Republican House candidates got about 40% of the vote in 2024. So you might expect the GOP would have elected about 20 House members from that state, out of 52 congressional districts. The Republicans only have 9 House seats in California.

Illinois, Republican candidates got about 45% of the vote. Of 17 congressional districts, one might expect the GOP to have about 7 seats. They only have 3 in Illinois. The Dems have the other 14.
.
New York , similar story. The Republicans got about 43% of the vote, which should have netted them about 11 of the 26 House seats in New York. They have only 7.

These states already have gerrymandered districts to favor the Democrats. How the heck can they expect to get more Democrat seats in these states?

This is so absurd. They squauk about gerrymandering but there is clear evidence they have done it in places where they control redistricting.

What exactly do they plan to do? Outlaw all other parties besides Democrats or socialists???

I guess trying to overthrow. duly elected government with President Trump in office with unconscionable, bogus ‘Russia, Russia, Russia’ lies did not undermine democracy. /s
