The Israeli Security Cabinet is scheduled to convene on Thursday to discuss a potential full military takeover of the Gaza Strip, including areas where hostages are believed to be held.
The decision to hold the meeting was made following a high-level discussion on Tuesday, led by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, with the participation of Defense Minister Israel Katz, IDF Chief of Staff Lt.-Gen. Eyal Zamir, and other top defense officials.
During the meeting, tensions flared between Netanyahu and Zamir.
Netanyahu stated: “We need to change the approach taken so far, only then will we be able to free the hostages.”
Zamir, following the decision to pursue a full occupation of Gaza, warned that it could become a strategic trap.
“This proposal endangers the hostages, but the IDF is preparing to implement the decision immediately once it is made,” Zamir said.

What else can they do? Not like they can just “ignore” Gaza.
Can hostages be rescued? Hamas will never give them up (stubborn) they will likely execute them.
This is what the Lt. General is probably getting at.
And by the way, he’d be flamed by some here for that attitude !
I’m sick of people thinking Israel is some monolithic country. It has many different voices and plenty of people will fret over this action not least the families affected
If this is such a good idea then why is almost all of Israel’s military & intelligence establishment against it?

550 ex-generals, Mossad & Shin Bet officials urge Trump to end Gaza war A letter from Commanders for Israel’s Security, signed by top ex-officials including former Mossad chief Tamir Pardo, Shin Bet heads Ami Ayalon and Adam Raz, and Deputy IDF Chief Matan Vilnai, was delivered to President Trump on August 2, 2025: “The IDF has already achieved what could be accomplished by force: dismantling Hamas’ formations and rule. The third objective, bringing the hostages home, can only be done through a deal.” They declare Hamas no longer poses a strategic threat to Israel and demand an end to the war: “Our hostages can’t wait.” The letter bluntly accuses Netanyahu’s government of dragging the war beyond its military utility, and calls on Trump to pressure Israel into cutting a deal. “Your credibility with the Israeli public can help steer Netanyahu in the right direction: end the war, return the hostages, and reduce suffering.” Full list includes: • Tamir Pardo – Mossad • Ami Ayalon – Shin Bet • Matan Vilnai – IDF Deputy Chief • Jeremy Issacharoff – MFA • Assaf Hefetz – Police Commissioner

I’m shocked, shocked.
this has to be done, and it is Israel’s territory by rights anyway
yes it is risky and yes there will be even more smearing in the globalist mass media
but it is the only chance to get the hostages out (whether it will be successful or not, it is the only chance)
and yes, the Fakestinian terrorist Occupation of Gaza is being terminated, no matter how it may look (watching for videos of many wailing “refugees” on their way to the French Riviera or Qatar. ... President Trump’s plan is still the best, a nice isolated Indonesian island which can be well guarded to prevent any more Fakestinian terrorist murder attacks on ANYBODY anywhere in the world)...but whether this will be followed-through-on or not? I don’t know.
Never should have given it up.
Temple mound, next.
The voice of history is clear: When you set out to take Vienna, then Take Vienna.. When you have your boot on your enemy’s neck, never let him off the hook. How many time has Israel done just that, and see how it worked out in the end.
Any hostage deaths are the fault of Hamas.
Period.
L
Because Isreael has a deep state alsp.
Move the UN there. The rest of the world can pay for it.
Well said.
