Trump goes after Susan Collins for her voting record

President Donald Trump is going after Republican Sen. Susan Collins despite hopes among some in the party that she will run again next year and help the GOP hold the Senate.

Trump, who has privately discussed finding someone to run for her seat should she not seek reelection, attacked the Maine senator’s voting record in a post on Truth Social.

The senator has voted against two of Trump’s signature legislative achievements this year — the domestic policy megabill and the measure to claw back $9 billion in foreign aid and public media funding.

“Republicans, when in doubt, vote the exact opposite of Senator Susan Collins,” Trump said. “Generally speaking, you can’t go wrong.”

Is this helpful? I dislike her but the Senate is practically 50/50 and Collins is from Maine

Used to think differently but not now

A washed up rino from Maine is certainly better than a rabid democrat in the seat.

Yup...getting her to vote MOST of the time with the GOP is far better than anything we’d get from a Dem.

Think committees.

The majority determines that.

If the Senate was 51-49 I think Collis and Murk would switch sides and hand the Senate to the rats. Murk already said she would.

Usually the secret deal is you support the judicial nominees and then you’re “allowed” to oppoose other stuff if in a tricky position without blowback from official GOP

At least that’s what I understand.

And go against Trump on amnesty and mass deportations if you want to see the country saved.

She’s a crazy spender and she’s now chair of Appropriations Committee !!

It will only get worse with her at the helm but I think I’d prefer her to prevail next year for pragmatic reasons

Whomever advises Trump again needs a wake up call.

Collins is very powerful and gets elected because she brings the money home as Chair of the Appropriations Committee.

So true

Collins frustrates the hell out of me

But she occasionally sounds like she is trying to have some principles (unlike, say, MooCowski).

And if Collins is the best Maine can do, as several FRers have opined, then I eill just continue to abide her. She at least counts for the committees

Maine, like Alaska, has RCV for a reason.

She consistently votes with the RATS. She is no use to the GOP, her and Murkowski are in effect RATS.

I would hope Trumps was this tactical but I have my doubts....that being said you know the Democrats in Maine hate it when he blasts Collins. This maxim by William F Buckley should be fully ingrained into the GOP (unfortunately its not and it works both ways with us nominating moderates in states like Utah and die hard conservatives in liberal states).

Yes her votes suck but she’s Team R for committees and judicial nominees so you have to decide on a trade off.

She is the only Rep Senator from a Dem leaning state. She needs to protect herself. Trump blasting her will probably help her which may be the reason he is doing it.

Committees determine what agenda point gets considered in the legislature.

The majority determines the chair of each commitee.

Not hard to understand. Dont like the chair person? Get that person removed.
