The leading liberal Orthodox rabbinical school quietly ordained an out gay rabbi this summer, marking a first for an Orthodox Jewish institution in the U.S.
Yeshivat Chovevei Torah, an all-male seminary in Riverdale, New York, ordained Rabbi Tadhg Cleary in a June 12 ceremony alongside three other graduates.
Cleary’s ordination, or semicha, came six years after YCT’s controversial refusal to ordain a different gay student whose public wedding engagement went viral. The same rosh yeshiva (head of school) who made that decision, Rabbi Dov Linzer, gave final approval to Cleary’s admission into the program and conferred his ordination, the significance of which has not been previously reported.

This is the last thing the Jews need during war. Now’s a time for them to get closer to God.
<< liberal Orthodox >>
Oxymoron alert.
Orthodox rabbinical school? Not anymore.
Sadly.
Huh? This is not biblical.
So to me the question is who will hire him for a rabbinical gig? He might be looking for something other than an Orthodox (?) pulpit. Perhaps an academic or administrative career at a Jewish institution?
Next year, in Greenwich Village.
From The Forward article -- "The school enrolled just one student in the 2024-25 school year and three the year prior." A demographic "read" to this says "failing." Ditto with all the "open and inclusive" churches of various flavors, all of them queer.
>>”I know rabbis aren’t assigned to congregations as it might be priests in the Catholic Church or one of the more hierarchical Protestant denominations.”
That’s true. But they’re essentially accredited by the rabbinical schools. Hopefully Orthodox congregations will no longer view this school as qualified to accredit Orthodox rabbis.
Liberal Orthodox. . . is that like a Ford Pontiac?
Not my circus, not my rebbes.
“Liberal Orthodox” is like “military intelligence”
At all.

...Rav Mordechai Gifter, zt”l, the Telzer Rosh Yeshiva, would often say that the word “Orthodox” is a Greek term that really has no meaning to us. He always felt more comfortable describing Torah-observant Jews as Torah Jews.
Nevertheless, the term “Orthodox” has come to connote Jews who are Torah-observant according to the accepted norms of the Shulchan Aruch and its interpretation by the great poskim, halachic decisors, throughout the generations.
Over the past years, there has been an emerging threat to Orthodox Judaism that has been gaining power and momentum. It is a “Yeshiva” that professes to be “Orthodox” but, in fact, deviates from normative Orthodox thought, halacha and practice as accepted by Rabbonim and Poskim from across the spectrum of Orthodoxy...
“liberal Orthodox”
You forgot the Y after the X. It’s liberal orthodoxy. Give it 3 years and the Rabbi with be screaming for a Palestinian state.
So you came here just to say that you don’t care? Thank you for that. I’m sure we we all wondering about that.

Tadhg Cleary is a very Irish-sounding name. A druid?
