The Florida Department of Education on Friday sent a scathing letter to Alachua County School Board Chair Sarah Rockwell in response to her social media post celebrating the death of Hulk Hogan as “one less MAGA,” and the board’s attempt to silence a parent at Thursday’s school board meeting.
“Your recent unprofessional conduct has been brought to my attention. You made disparaging comments about the death of a conservative public figure, leading the public to lose confidence in your ability to treat all students and families fairly,” Commissioner of Education Anastasios Kamoutsas wrote.
That concern has now been reaffirmed by your decision to allow the rights of a parent defending a conservative position to be violated at the July 31, 2025, Alachua County School Board Meeting. Your conduct during this meeting was inexcusable. You should be ashamed of your failure as a board member, let alone the board chair,”
At the meeting, a parent — now identified as Jeremy Clepper — called on Rockwell to resign over her comments about Hogan.
Said Clepper, “Rockwell, you cheered for the death of MAGA. You don’t have to be a member of MAGA. I’m not a member of MAGA. I have loved ones and friends that are — and you cheered for that,” Clepper said. “You didn’t apologize, that’s such back-stepping. You’re a PhD. Aren’t you highly educated woman that knows the exact meaning behind her words? Aren’t you? You know what you said, and you should step down. You’re a disgusting, vile human being.”
One of the board members calls on a deputy so the parent "can be REMOVED from the auditorium."
They violated that parent's First Amendment rights.
The board then backpedals and admits "Our attorney asks us NOT to remove him."
They now have a big problem on their hands.

Commissioner of Education recommends withholding School Board Members’ salaries for violating parents’ rights
This new FL Education Commissioner has been on the job only 2 weeks. Looks like he intends to make a name for himself. I wouldn’t be surprised if DeSantis removes that board member.
Education Commissioner Warns Districts to Respect Parental Rights
Feed all of them to the hogs...
Gator bait.
Just sayin’….
I watched the video of the meeting. Apparently, the citizen who criticized the board president had telegraphed his intention to be at the board meeting in person.
The local teacher’s union contingent packed the meeting and tried to shout him down when he made his comments and then sicced the cops on him.
This story is nowhere near over.
That was a pretty good letter the Florida Commissioner wrote!
The left is chock full of lousy bigots and pathetic morons. She’s both. Fire her as an example that we’re not going to stand for it anymore. Those days are over now.
The humiliation was done. so now for the lawsuit against the school system, school board and sheriff because his deputies tried to enforce an illegal order. Get a pile of money!
Death seems to be the only thing the Godless Left feels really enthusiastic about.
Outstanding action by the Florida Education Commissioner making her actually accountable. That’s such a refreshing change. There is no way any parent of a kid in that school system can have any confidence she - and the rest of the board - are anything other than hateful, vile commies.
The vilest people in the US are on school boards and in the classroom.
This happened in Alachua County, home of the University of Florida, a city filled with extreme liberals surrounded by a sea of red.
DeSantis has also sent the State of Florida DOGE team to the City of Gainesville in Alachua County to figure out why their property taxes have skyrocketed far more than population increases indicate and where did all that money go.
Gainesville also operated a city utilities company called Gainesville Regional Utilities; the control was removed from the City and placed in the hands of a State appointed board because of financial mismanagement.

Commissioner of Education recommends withholding School Board Members’ salaries for violating parents’ rights
Interesting story for me, because this is where I grew up. I have family there, and some with children in the school system.
The left needs to be put on notice. They serve the people, not the other way around.
One of the strange things about Alachua County is or was how they vote for County Commissioners, the City of Gainesville is a college town and extremely liberal, which is well documented , Gainesville is surrounded by a number of small rural cities where the primary activity is farming, I grew up in Newberry in western Alachua County and it’s still a farming town despite all the growth in last 10 years or so.
The County Commission was made up of all at-large members meaning each commissioner represented the entire county instead of a particular piece of the County, when people vote for county commission, the entire county votes for each commissioner, instead of single member districts where the commissioner was elected by the people in the district.
The result was the entire commission was made up of people who live in Gainesville who ignored the surrounding areas of Alachua County, I know there was a major push to get this changed, I don’t know if they were successful or not.
Lions and tigers and ‘scathing letters’, oh my !
I don’t know either. My family mostly lives in Gainesville, but some are in Alachua, and some in Newberry. I wonder if either of my siblings who are there know if that’s changed. It has long been a problem, I agree.
Almost all the local government in Alachua is Hard Left.
A perfect opportunity for DeSantis and his Education Commissioner to make examples of them, and they walked right into the trap.
