"The phrase Japanese First was meant to express rebuilding Japanese people's livelihoods by resisting globalism," said Sohei Kamiya, the leader of Japan's Sanseito party.
The fringe far-right Sanseito party emerged as one of the biggest winners in Japan's Upper House election on Sunday (Jul 20), gaining support with warnings of a "silent invasion" of immigrants, and pledges for tax cuts and welfare spending.
Birthed on YouTube during the COVID-19 pandemic spreading conspiracy theories about vaccinations and a cabal of global elites, the party broke into mainstream politics with its "Japanese First" campaign. The party won 14 seats, adding to the single lawmaker it secured in the 248-seat chamber three years ago. It has only three seats in the more powerful lower house.
"The phrase Japanese First was meant to express rebuilding Japanese people's livelihoods by resisting globalism. I am not saying that we should completely ban foreigners or that every foreigner should get out of Japan," Sohei Kamiya, the party's 47-year-old leader, said in an interview with local broadcaster Nippon Television after the election.

MJGA. I don’t know how you would pronounce that but that’s their theme.
“It’s kind of funny, because at it’s laxest, Japanese immigration is stricter than U.S. immigration at it’s laxest.”
Or something like that, but I think I know what you mean.
The Japs need to have more babies
I was just going to say that. As far as everything I’ve read, Japan is a totally inclusive nation/society, though one that has an aging population and no youngsters to support them.
Gee! Sounds familiar!
You kids! Quit screwing around on Free Republic and GET BACK TO WORK to support us Oldsters!
That said - WHO is invading the shores of Japan?
“ …. spreading “conspiracy theories” about vaccinations and a cabal of global elites”
Yeah, that’s crazy talk!
Not the Bee? Japan is already famous for its tough laws against immigration. I honestly can’t imagine there’s a window in their policy that couldn’t slammed shut and locked tight at a moment’s notice!

Well, there’s a group of Kurds in Saitama, they have loads of Chinese that are causing crime, there’s a lot of Indians now because of their “learn Japanese while working in a convenience story” plan, and most is thanks to previous ambassador Rahm Emmanuel.
Dang! They know who all the troublemakers are! That sounds downright manageable!
I like it.
NWO can kiss the ass.
Yeah, most of it is only in the Tokyo area. I lived there for many years and even now it shocks me whenever I’m there. And the tourism right now is stifling.
I think you meant American immigration at its “tightest”. You know how North Korea doesn’t let anybody leave? Japan doesn’t let anybody in they don’t want. It’s partly a racial thing, but so what? It’s their country.
And yet back in the 1920s, Japan got upset at the United States because we reduced the number of Asians we let into the country. In fact, it was the start of the decline in US-Japan Relations, that ultimately led to Pearl Harbor.
