The Fed has central control of our US monetary system. They make executive decisions about controlling our monetary system.

That's an executive branch function. Yet they are "independent" of the executive branch.

I ask again, how is that NOT unconstitutional?

I don’t think Powell is anti-Trump...and he believes he is right in holding to the present rates.

Powell thinks it is his responsibility to use higher rates to lower housing prices to help younger buyers. This puts him directly at odds with Trump and his Boomer supporters, who like prices where they are and want to instead use lower mortgage rates to entice younger buyers.

They are actually both wrong - the only way to help younger buyers is a combination of 1) Massive construction of smaller, entry-level homes and 2) A return of redlining to make sure those new neighborhoods remain safe and palatable to existing residents.

The fix thus requires criminal background checks and profiling - a massive Federal punch in the mouth to Section 8 advocates and the Obama-era multiculturalists (and by extension, the Democrats in general) whose policies have generated adverse local zoning laws across the USA. These laws have crushed the development of entry-level housing - to keep Obama's clients out of safe and established areas where voters are highly motivated to punish Utopian politicians at the polls.

I don't see anyone in government having the courage to take on this fight, yet. But if it isn't done - as Charlie Kirk and Tucker Carlson recently pointed out - Gen Z'ers will enter politics in a few years bringing with them solutions neither the Left nor the Boomers are going to like.

Yep, even if Powell voted to lower rates, he would be overridden by the other 9 votes!

His vote may influence a few of the others,,,,,,but he would have to change at least 5 votes—since his vote counts no more than any of the others.

That’s obvious and I give him credit for that. I do wish though he would go beyond such frank releases and perhaps explain just why Powell’s refusal to change interest rates is a disaster for the average U.S. household.

I don’t doubt he has done so in other forums but it is his Truth Social posts that garner so much attention.

Bandying around the “treason” whenever an official does not hold 100% to what Trump desires is a stupid as when the Left bandys around the word “fascist” when Trump does just about anything at all.

Then why are we paying for their building?

Why do we nominate and approve their board?

Why dues the President choose the director? Why is the director’s term limited?

Why do they get paid on interest from our money?

Independent my butt.

Bypass the Fed and re-institute usury laws.

Their decisions have absolutely nothing to do with any of those items.

The problem is that Powell and the board are now political animals who are acting to extend the inflationary dynamic by keeping the rates high so that businesses will soon have to pass on higher tariff costs to the consumer. That will drive up inflation.

A reduction in the rate will avoid the retail market having increased process. Powell predicted that the tariffs would drive up prices and he is waiting for that to happen when the increase can be avoided by a reduction i0n interest rates. And the board except for a couple of them are supporting this ruinous approach.

Powell is a bastard and so are his supportive cronies. They want tariffs to drive up prices. And they are willing to wait as long as they have to so it will happen, when the antidote is within their hands.

No wonder Trump is angry.

Congress should tank the whole lot of them.

Powell and his cronies lowered interest rates to support the election run of Kamala Harris. Now they are acting to destroy the economic boom underway with Trump. Clear bastardy of the most ruinous proportions.

So, what do you call purposely trying to ruin the economy in an elections year?

Where is the evidence for that? Assumptions are not evidence.

Well - Powell just screwed the pooch on the jobs report as a “reason” to keep rates high.

I can’t believe we have folks on FR that are defending Powell....they obviously haven’t been paying attention lover the last 5 years. Nominating Powell during his first term was one of Trump’s bigger mistakes - taking advice from Deep Staters.

Not defending him. Just wanting more information on the reason he decided to keep the rates as they are. Also in addition to “Truth Social” I’d like to see a less spleenful response from Trump.
