President Trump on Wednesday went off on one his closest allies in Congress, Sen. Josh Hawley (R-Mo.) over voting in committee on a bill that would ban stock trading by lawmakers, presidents and vice presidents, arguing that Hawley teamed up with Democrats to advance the measure.
The bill would ban congressional lawmakers and their spouses from trading stocks as well as presidents and vice presidents, but the latter would only apply to future administrations.
Still, Trump, in a social media post, went off on Hawley claiming that he was being used by Democrats to target the president. He also questioned Hawley being the lone Republican on the panel to vote with Democrats 8-7 to advance the bill out of committee.
“Why would one ‘Republican,’ Senator Josh Hawley from the Great State of Missouri, join with all of the Democrats to block a Review, sponsored by Senator Rick Scott, and with the support of almost all other Republicans, of Nancy Pelosi’s Stock Trading over the last 25 years. The information was inappropriately released just minutes before the Vote — Very much like SABOTAGE!” Trump said on Truth Social.
It was a change of tune from earlier in the day when Trump was asked what he thought of the bill, to which he replied he liked it “conceptually” before launching into an attack on former Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) over unfounded claims of insider trading.
“I’ll take a look at it. But conceptually I like it,” Trump said. “And what I do think is Nancy Pelosi should be investigated because what she has the highest return of anybody practically in the history of Wall Street save a few. And how did that happen?”
Pelosi has come under attack from Republicans for stock trading ...

Well gee…if the government people can’t get rich trading stocks they might not stay in DC as long.
Sounds OK to me.
PDJT should go . . . for a walk, and get some excersize, take a shower, hug the wife, have dinner, read a book and go . . . to bed.
Before he blows a gasket.
No other GOPer voted for this in the committee
‘The Honest Act, introduced by Sen. Josh Hawley (R-Mo.), was originally called the Preventing Elected Leaders from Owning Securities and Investments, or PELOSI, Act — a nod to the criticism Pelosi has faced for her husband’s extensive trading.
But, working with Democrats, Hawley dropped the contentious name and expanded the lawmaker ban to apply to future presidents and vice presidents as well.’
Think Mr. Trump is off his nut...
Stupid comments like this by Trump, is why no one should be a cult follower. You know, Trump could have called Hawley before launching into this screed.
Of course you would say something sparky like that.
You are a never-Trumper as your posting history so clearly shows!
“ I’ll take a look at it. But conceptually I like it,” Trump said. “And what I do think is Nancy Pelosi should be investigated because what she has the highest return of anybody practically in the history of Wall Street save a few. And how did that happen?”
You think trump is off his nut?
How so?
Good idea. WHEN does he rest? On Air Force One maybe -coming and going? Otherwise, he’s in front of the press. I bet he calls “golf” relaxing and I guess it would be but I bet he doesn’t know HOW to sit, put his feet up and just plain RELAX - without saying a word!
“Still, Trump, in a social media post, went off on Hawley claiming that he was being used by Democrats to target the president.”
The democrats came up with this? They let pelosi become the trader with the best results on Wall Street for the millennia since she started politics and not that trump is in they want to go after presidents on this and you don’t think trump is correct?
“”You are a never-Trumper as your posting history so clearly shows!””
Jumping in here as I wanted to see WHY you made that statement to the poster. I don’t see his posting history showing him to be a never-Trumper. Anyone complaining about an action of the president, does NOT make one a never-Trumper.
I agree that it should apply to Congress and president and VP
DC is an insider grifting cesspool
“”Stupid comments like this by Trump, is why no one should be a cult follower.””
It’s getting to be a given to take flak from FReepers if we make a negative comment about the president but we should be able to make our comments freely without recrimination. I think the president needs a “governor”...he doesn’t NEED to make negative comments about everything...especially when he calls reporters names.
That just isn’t “presidential”...Everyone has opinions but we need to work for a more courteous citizenry - not enraging everyone who act out in acts of violence...Haven’t we all seen enough/too much of that?
President Trump is a political and financial genius with matching negotiation skills. Hawley is a legal genius with matching argumentative skills. Hawley must have some legal issue that’s not yet been communicated. Not a great position for him.
In 2006, Republicans wanted to ban insider trading and elosi blocked it.
Your opinion of DJT means shite.
I agree. It’s unnecessary and divisive.
As if this legislation would actually stop them. If it passes, I foresee a large industry dedicated to secretly buying, selling and holding stock purchases for the politicians, acting on their (the politicians) insider information, and laundering the proceeds back to them (Skimming a reasonable percentage for their services of course.)
There is no real way to stop politicians from stealing and using their positions to make a profit in many ways.
At best, you could discourage them by a widely broadcast public execution of every one they catch doing it.
I've posted trades that occurred on here by people that knew certain things would occur from the WH.
