Food Prices Will Rise Under Trump, Group Warns

President Donald Trump's tariffs, scheduled to increase on August 1, could result in significantly higher prices for a range of food groups.
This is according to an analysis published Monday by the bipartisan Tax Foundation, which found that these will impact nearly 75 percent of U.S. food imports, which it said will "likely lead to higher food prices for consumers."
Newsweek reached out to the White House via email for comment.
Why It Matters
It has repeatedly been warned that the higher import taxes implemented as a result of the Trump administration's economic agenda will increase costs for U.S. businesses reliant on foreign goods or components, and that this will translate into higher consumer prices as companies pass along these added expenses.
What To Know According to the Tax Foundation, citing data from the U.S. International Trade Commission, 74 percent of the $221 billion worth of imported food products last year would be subject to the new administration's tariff policies. Among specific products, liqueurs and spirits were the most imported category last year, followed by baked goods, coffee, fish, and beer. Together, these accounted for roughly 21 percent of total food imports.

Pricing considerations that every producer takes into account:
a price that produces competition.
Any of these commodities that can be produced locally or in nations with which we have better trade deals will become competition.
Producers will absorb the costs.

All those products are easily avoided if I don’t want to pay more besides coffee and I should probably drink less of it anyways

Nonsense!
Grok:
Trump’s First Six Months (January 2025–June 2025)Average Inflation Rate: Data from X posts and recent reports suggest that inflation under Trump during this period has been relatively low. For example, posts on X claim an average headline Consumer Price Index (CPI) inflation rate of around 1.0% to 1.5% for the first six months of 2025. A specific report from April 2025 notes a month-over-month CPI decline of 0.1% in March, with an annual inflation rate of 2.4%, described as a six-month low. Another source indicates the annual inflation rate rose to 3.0% by February 2025, suggesting some fluctuation but generally low inflation compared to recent years. Context: These figures are attributed to falling energy prices, declining costs for goods like gasoline and used cars, and Trump’s early policy actions, such as tariff announcements and promises of increased oil production. However, some economists warn that proposed tariffs could increase inflationary pressures in the future.
Biden’s Term (January 2021–January 2025)Average Inflation Rate: The average year-over-year inflation rate under Biden is reported at approximately 4.95% to 5.2%, with a cumulative inflation increase of about 19.3% to 21% over his term. Inflation peaked at 9.1% in June 2022, the highest in four decades, driven by post-COVID supply chain disruptions and the Russia-Ukraine war. By July 2024, inflation had cooled to 2.9%, and further declines were noted by the end of Biden’s term, with some sources citing 2.4% in March 2025 (just after Biden’s departure).

Hugh Cameron let idiots pull out their crystal ball and find a way to trash Trump. IF food prices go up it’s a story - if some idiots imagines food prices will go up that’s worthless.
Under Biden food prices went up - waaaay up and the MSM ignored it as long as they could.

Nope.
Trump tariffs started about 6 months ago.
And there will be very little new tariffs August 1, given Trump’s already secured trade deals with the major players outside Canada.
Not losing sleep over Canada. Most of their exports to the US can be made locally.
Their loss.
