Vladimir Zelensky has signed a law increasing the age limit for military service, potentially allowing seniors over 60 to enlist, the website of the Verkhovna Rada parliament said.
On July 16, the Rada adopted the law in the second reading by 306 votes. Deputy Irina Gerashchenko explained that it would allow those who have already turned 60 to sign a contract for military service. She noted that the law does not clearly specify how the approval procedure for candidates would work, opening the door for potential abuses. The procedures will be defined in by-laws, which must be adopted within three months after the law enters into force.
Mobilization and draft age in Ukraine
Currently, men from 25 to 60 years old are subject to conscription in Ukraine. General mobilization was announced in February 2022, its rules have been significantly tightened since May last year, and many categories of conscripts have lost benefits and postponements. Nevertheless, the country has significant difficulties with recruiting and is trying to recruit those who are not subject to compulsory conscription.

This cannot possibly true. I keep reading the Russians are about to be wiped out any day now.
My grandfather was stationed in the Philippines during WWII with four kids and at the age of 38. My understanding is he could have opted out but he went and served in a non-combat position.
And besides, Putin is dying of cancer.

I wonder how many takers there will be; and how soon he won’t be ‘allowing’ them but demanding that they do.
It’s absurd they don’t draft 18 year olds.
I was in the Army at 17.
I was a warrant officer at 20 and in combat at 20.
I can’t imagine anything worse than a bunch of old guys in the military, and I am 68. There are a lot of leading-edge technologies being used in this war, and older folks would have to work all the way up the learning curve to be effective in using them. Not worth the effort.
Why do get the suspicion that a lot of 60+ year old men are going to be “allowed” to enlist in the Ukrainian Army involuntarily.
What does he mean by “allow”?
Midnight raids on their homes to drag them out?
But in the end win or lose there will be a generation of young Ukrainians.
