It is. An English version of La Mer became Bobby Darin’s hit “Beyond the Sea.” And the closing montage of “Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy” was set to a live cover of the French version of “La Mer” sung by by Julio Iglesias.

Thank you for confirming that. I knew he wrote it, but that does not always mean he was the first. It most often does, of course.

I love your “song theme” posts. always get good listening from them. I try to post relevant stuff I am partial to, so others can enjoy too.

Seemann, deine Heimat ist das Meer (sailor, your home is the ocean)--Lolita Ditta (1960)
Interestingly, the singer is from Austria, which has no seacoast.

Here's the English version:
Sailor--Petula Clark (1961)

This song cracks me up: Prisencolinensinainciusol -- Adriano Celentano

Song is gibberish, but the writer is trying to convey what a song in English sounds like to a non-English speaking person.

It is catchy.

A tale of the birth on a starry night, wedding at 19, and death on another starry night, of a man who lived in a community at the bottom of a valley, far from populated areas and highways.

Les Trois Cloches (the three bells)--Les Compagnons de la Chanson (the singing companions) with Edith Piaf (1946)

Tu Vuò Fa' L'Americano (you're acting like an American)--Renato Carasone (1958)

You're acting like an Americcan. You're drinking whiskey and soda, dancing to rock and roll, playing baseball, and smoking Camels--but you were born in Italy!
