Syrian government starts evacuating Bedouin families from Sweida in bid to end weeklong clashes

The Syrian government on Monday started evacuating Bedouin families trapped inside the city of Sweida, where Druze militiamen and Bedouin fighters have clashed for over a week.

The clashes between militias of the Druze religious minority and the Sunni Muslim clans killed hundreds and threatened to unravel Syria’s already fragile postwar transition. The clashes also led to a series of targeted sectarian attacks against the Druze community, followed by revenge attacks against the Bedouins. The U.N. International Organization for Migration said some 128,571 people were displaced in the hostilities that started with a series of tit-for-tat kidnappings and attacks a week ago.

Syrian state media said early Sunday that the government had coordinated with some officials in Sweida to bring in buses to evacuate some 1,500 Bedouins in the city. Syrian Interior Minister Ahmad al-Dalati told SANA that the initiative will also allow displaced civilians from Sweida to return, as the fighting has largely stopped and efforts for a complete ceasefire are ongoing.

“We have imposed a security cordon in the vicinity of Sweida to keep it secure and to stop the fighting there,’ al-Dalati told the Syrian state-run news agency. ”This will preserve the path that will lead to reconciliation and stability in the province.”

Buses filled with Bedouin families were accompanied by Syrian Arab Red Crescent vehicles and ambulances. Some families left on trucks with their belongings.

Syrian authorities did not give further details about the evacuation and how it ties into the broader agreement, following failed talks for a hostage swap deal Saturday.

However, Britain-based war monitor the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said that as part of the agreement, the Bedouin fighters would have to release Druze women they were holding captive, and leave the province.

How about getting rid of the muslims, who hate everybody and don’t get along even with their own sects. You’d have little or no problem if the Druze and Christians were left alone? Ain’t gonna happen. The Middle East, was, is and will forever be, a simmering pot of manure ready to explode for any reason. As it has been for the past 2,000 years. Nothing changes.

Notice how they have NO interest whatsoever in helping the Druze.

If it were up to the smiling, suit-wearing, Western government-charming ISIS thug running Syria, he would see every Druze exterminated.

Ancient Romans said all Semites (Jews, Arabs, Egyptian) were hard to rule because they were stiff necked religious fanatics. I guess nothing changes.

AP does not have a clue what is happening in Sweida. The Syrian President gave orders to send mixed Jihadi’s to the areas inhabited by Druze. Those Jihadi’s are Al-Qaeda and ISIS and dressed like Bedouins. They fake it, so the truth will never get into news at all.

The only reason they backed out of the area earlier, was Israel warned Damascus about their butchery of Druze. When they did not respond Israel destroyed the Syrian military Headquarters. Poof.

That is why the leaders moved to Idlib, where they were still in control and communication systems.

Captured Syrian Army personnel have revealed the whole story. I have seen video's. The “NEW” Syrian government is controlled by Qatar, Turkey, and foreign Turkish fighters.

Their aim is to destroy all opposition to their end game of destroying Israel and take Jerusalem.

NOT GOING TO HAPPEN.

So far there’s an uneasy peace. The government in charge wants to dominate. That’ll lead to more skirmishes in the near future.

I think Trump wanted to give him a chance. I don't fault Trump for doing that. But you know the saying "A wolf in sheep's clothing."
