You can play a lot of sports in the rain and the mud, but baseball is not one of them.
A game for the Cal Ripken League in Montgomery County, Maryland, had to be canceled Thursday because of a feud between a firefighter and the Takoma Thunderbolts.
A baseball coach told News4 that at batting practice a long fly ball soared over a fence and hit a pickup truck in the parking lot at the nearby Silver Spring Fire Station. Then the coach said a county firefighter deliberately flooded the field.
Players with the Thunderbolts, a collegiate men's team, said some time went by after the ball hit the truck. Then they saw a fire engine back out of the station on University Boulevard.
Moments later, a huge stream of water began cascading onto the field on which the team was about to play.
A player ran to the station in an effort to get the water turned off but was met with a stream of angry words.
Max Eckert and Brock Hunter, players on the Thunderbolts, shared what happened next.
"I see some players rushing off the field because water is being shot onto our outfield, which, then we spend a lot of time fixing the field up as it's been raining every single day," said Eckert. "And so I ran out there thinking it was a mistake and just saying 'Hey! Hey! You probably want to turn that off or redirect it,' and then things got a little heated from that point on."
"I come from Virginia, you know, the team we were playing is from Virginia, so a lot of families drove an hour-and-a-half in traffic to hopefully play after all this rain, and didn't get to play," said Hunter.

The article didn’t post any pictures of the perpetrators. How odd.
The county fireman should be “fired” for using a firetruck as his own hose but I’m sure he belongs to a union so that won’t be happening.
This fire hosing was done out of boredom.....
Due to extensive safety measures fires are way down from 30 years ago. But in many locations (liberal and blue) the fire stations are as fully staffed as years ago. It is really a scam and a racket. Firefighters can arrange for a three day work schedule of 3x 14 hour days. This gives them days off for their second job. Say in contracting, to fix your properties fire violations, after you flunk inspection.
At a former place of employment, there were two retired firemen captains as safety coordinators.
They weren’t good for very much except for not being around and making other people do their jobs. One of the two was always somewhere else teaching OSHA classes for big bucks on the side instead of being at the office.
That same guy left a few months later. When I went to his old office to recover equipment and see what he left, I found that he actually wrote with an ink pen on his computer monitor screens.
I have never seen or heard of that before.
They were obsolete smaller monitors so not that great a loss.
Neither were they. I understand the other one left finally.
Not a bad scam when you are retired (with pension) from one job to do another. Pubic sector entrepreneurs.
They should have gone over there immediately after hitting the truck. They wouldn’t get away with a little spritzing if it were my truck.
plenty of videos and photos on other sites!
I think the bold text explains it.
Tell me about it.
Somehow, they got away with it there for a few years.
The head of HR was far worse than them put together. She would literally never come in and somehow was magically on vacation most of the time. She routinely and blatantly lied about anyone and anything but got always got a pass.
She was the truly evil living version of Pearl Forrester, they look a lot alike. I’d prefer Pearl.
Morale was usually zero, recruitment zero in really important areas especially, and would not part with a dime of training money unless you were a favorite of hers. It was in her interest not approve training since she got a cut of the money saved.
I went through a few rounds of trying to get reimbursed for part time cyber security classes or certifications. The typical stone was more responsive. I found out how worthless my management types were in that regard were as well. The same as HR.
I was a system administrator/service desk/ all-purpose person who showed up and did things every day while the two slacker applications people never did. One of them was the head US applications guy, the other was his idiot boot licking idiot buddy who never had original thought it seemed.
Head US applications guy and the rest of the so called “team” management ignored me on my requests too. I kept up with my classes and got a few certs in my last days there.
In all my 12 years there I had never asked for a raise.
I eventually gave up one Monday morning after being told I was going to be stripped of my own office that I had for my whole time. That was in a long line of other things that happened to me by another new fool in charge. Slacker application guy, smooth sailing always.
The loyal, really intelligent, and all around super great guy chief engineer went through more persecution than I did.
We were both casualties in the HR queen’s war on competent good people.
I got a little joy later when CrowdStrike bricked so many systems. Knowing that both of them had to get up and actually do something for once made my midwest vacation a little better. Even more so knowing only one of them knew how to actually do anything. Hundreds of PCs and laptops awaited them.
The queen was finally fired I heard. She should be in prison.

Reminds me of the Flintstones episode when Fred and Barney are out all night at the Bedrock firehouse. Barney says: “Fred, why do we need a fire department in Bedrock, since everything is made out of stone and we have no fires?” Fred: “Shut up, dummy. This is just a scam to get away from the wives once a week.”
I bet not. Montgomery County Volunteer Fire Rescue Association would not have a union.
Volunteers may be eligible for Length of Service Awards (pensions), tuition assistance, and tax rebates.
The Commonwealth of Virginia also has Volunteer Fire & Rescue Associations.
Being a fireman is a road to riches for many, especially in real estate.
You’re right. That particular station is a volunteer station.
Show me anyone in HR that should not be fired or in prison. It is an empire created out of regulations.
I can think of two HR people who were top notch superstars.
You can substitute the typical turtle for the others I’ve run into.
You parked in the parking lot of a baseball field.
No baseballs should hit your truck?
It was parked in the fire station parking lot.
College World Series teams practice at HS ballfields around Omaha. One year, my son and I went to watch Rice and one of the guys launched one and you could see the ball heading right for a car coming down the street & he nailed it. Guy slammed on his breaks, got the baseball and drove into the parking lot. The Rice kids were going crazy on whether the driver was going to go off on the batter or not. Driver asked who hit it, the player admitted it, driver asked for him to autograph the ball and got back in his car with the ball and and drove off.
