Syria struggles to quell deadly Bedouin-Druze clashes in south
BBC ^ | July 20 | BBC

Posted on 07/20/2025 3:17:04 AM PDT by RandFan

Sectarian clashes have continued in southern Syria despite an "immediate ceasefire" announced by the country's president.

Reports say that Druze fighters on Saturday pushed out Bedouin gunmen from the city of Suweida - but fighting continued in other parts of the province. This has not been verified by the BBC.

Government forces deployed earlier this week by interim President Ahmed al-Sharaa were blamed for joining in attacks on the Druze. More than 900 people are reported to have been killed in the past week. All sides are accused of atrocities.

The US Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, demanded an end to "the rape and slaughter of innocent people" in Syria, in a post on X on Saturday.

Rubio wrote: "If authorities in Damascus want to preserve any chance of achieving a unified, inclusive and peaceful Syria free of ISIS [Islamic State] and of Iranian control they must help end this calamity by using their security forces to prevent ISIS and any other violent jihadists from entering the area and carrying out massacres.

"And they must hold accountable and bring to justice anyone guilty of atrocities including those in their own ranks," the top US diplomat added.

Shoutout to Freeper @DesertRhino and others who predicted this chaos in Syria: "I'll give it six months" . Incredibly prophetic and goes to show you regime change is not necessarily a good idea.

Another country the giddy neocons have plunged into Civil war.

Israel has cynically cited a commitment to protecting the Israeli Druze minority in Syria as a justification for its recent deadly bombing strikes into Syria.

Syria also has a large Catholic population which may also have drawn the ire of anti-Christian Israel.

This justification stems from the long-standing relationship between the Israeli Druze community and the Israeli state, where they serve in the military and feel a shared sense of identity as both Druze and Israeli.

The Druze in Syria have faced attacks from government-affiliated forces and other groups, leading the Israeli Druze to urge their government to intervene.

The Druze are a religious and ethnic group primarily located in Syria, Lebanon, Israel, and Jordan. In Syria, they have faced challenges during the ongoing civil war, with some Druze communities forming militias for self-defense.

Israeli Druze see themselves as both Druze and Israeli, and they have a strong sense of solidarity with their brethren in Syria. They feel that they have gained from their alliance with Israel and are urging the government to protect the Druze in Syria.

Following clashes between Druze militias and Syrian government forces, and reports of attacks on Druze civilians, Israel launched airstrikes in Syria. Israel stated these strikes were aimed at protecting the Druze and pushing back against forces threatening them.

There likely is a Geopolitical Context wherein Israel is secretly trying to establish hegemony in the region.

Some well-informed analysts suggest that.... more likely..... Israel’s actions are motivated by a desire to destabilize Syria and weaken its post-Assad government. The bomb-crazed Israel has also expressed concerns about the presence of Iran and Hezbollah in Syria and has been targeting their sites with bombs.

Did anyone think installing a former al-Qaeda, al-Nusra, and ISIS commander, Ahmed Hussein al-Sharaa, as president of Syria would lead to peace?

What is happening now is that for the moment all persecuted minorities in Syria (the Alawites, the Druze, various Christian denominations) are all asking for help from the international community. So far the only ones who have acted are the Israelis.

US envoy Huckabee demands ‘harsh consequences’ as he visits Christian town attacked by Israeli settlers who want the place all for themselves

Mike Huckabee says ‘desecrating a church, mosque or synagogue is a crime against humanity and God’ following arson attack on ruins of Christian house of worship

US Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee visited the Christian Palestinian town of Taybeh in the West Bank on Saturday, which has been the scene of several attacks by Israeli settlers in recent weeks.

Taybeh residents and local church leaders said the town had experienced an upsurge in Israeli settler harassment recently. They pointed to an arson attack, which they said was committed by extremist settlers, next to the ruins of the Church of St. George in the town last week, as one of the most serious incidents so far.

On Monday, the most senior church leaders in the Holy Land toured the Palestinian town and alleged that Israeli authorities have, in fact, facilitated the ongoing harassment.

“Desecrating a church, mosque or synagogue is a crime against humanity and God,” Huckabee wrote Saturday on X after touring Taybeh.

“I work for ALL American citizens who live in Israel-Jewish, Muslim or Christian. When they are terrorized or victims of crime I will demand those responsible be held accountable with real consequences,” he added.

sadly US overestimated either the capacity of Syrian leadership or its desire to quell murderous goal of many to massacre the Druze and some Christians. this is an age-old proclivity - and horrible atrocities occurred while we kept the IDF from intervening the last few days. a horrible mistake that finger-wagging and words can’t paper over. the videos and pictures are horrendous.

The only reason they’re *struggling* is cause they really don’t want to. Muslims have shown us one thing. If they want something stopped, they’ll stop it quickly and ruthlessly.

You know not of what you are talking...

I suggest you visit this link (https://tlgrm.eu/channels/@beholdisraelchannel) and watch some of the video clips that Amir Tsarfati has published.

NB! Not for the fainthearted, but at the same time if you think you can comment on what is happening in Syria you need to see what is going on!

From everything I’ve read, Israel is on good terms with the Druze and there are many Druze who are Israeli citizens.

They’re protecting the Druze from horrific slaughter by the muslims who hate anyone and everyone.

Here.....

To see what’s been going on in Syria in regard to the muslims with the Druze, read this Telegram account.

Amir Tsarfati - https://beholdisrael.org/ It’ll take you to his account where he posts current on the ground news about what’s happening there.

He’ lives there and is a former IDF captain and the last Jewish mayor of Jericho. And he has connections.
