Electricity bills projected to jump 20% in coming months for these 13 states

2024, prices jumped 800% at PJM Interconnection, a “traffic controller” part of the grid that provides service in 13 states as well as D.C. .. PJM operates the largest power grid in the U.S., with around 67 million customers—that’s more than 20% of the American population.

...

amid a dwindling supply and an increase in demand, “Prices for power plants landed at $269.92 per megawatt-day, compared to $28.92 per megawatt-day” in 2023.

...

prices are set to spike again, and the projection for this year is around 20%. If you live in Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Maryland, Michigan, New Jersey, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Virginia, West Virginia, or D.C., .

...

The grid as it is now is barely able to meet current demands, demands which are only expected to soar in just a few short years, and prices for consumers substantially increased for more than 20% of the citizenry in less than two years…but politicians and lawmakers continue to order the closures of operational power plants for their “renewable” energy crusade.

...

average lifespan of an oil refinery is between 30 and 50 years, with some still around that date back to the end of the 19th century. (The average age is around 40 years.) On the other hand, solar panels typically last around 20 years, the inverter required to make energy available for household use lasts between 10 and 15 years, and solar batteries last between 5 and 15 years. On the other hand, wind turbines are decommissioned after about 20 years—if they even make it that long.

In the last fifteen years, hundreds of coal-fired plants have shut down, and since 2013, at least ten nuclear power plants have been decommissioned.

Soon on MSNBC panels:
With the inflation and economic collapse caused by the tariffs, and the out of pocket costs of minimal medical care caused by cutbacks to the needy, most people will be too weak from malnutrition from high food prices to be able to reach up to turn on the light switch.

BS. My electric rate never changes much. I live in TN.

Fortunately I don’t get a lot of direct sunlight. Summer bill is around $120 a month with the ac set at 69 all day and night.

Winter is opposite. Pushes to $175 average.

There was a great thread earlier today on the virtues of the potato. Glad to see it energizing further praise.

Our bills in AZ are the opposite. In June, July, August & September we pay between $350-500 for power with the thermostat set at 75 degrees. In winter we pay under $100 for electric with a gas bill of about $50.

This soaring cost is only going to go up more as subsidized, unreliable, inefficient and very costly wind and solar are replaced in a panic by natural gas fired turbines that can be brought on quickly and incrementally. This convenience and speed comes at great cost in what is a seller’s market for gas turbines. Yet another high cost seller’s market has been created by government interference. Thanks to bidet and all the net zero green weenies.

You and i paid our tax dollars to get in this bad place and we will pay dearly in electric rates because of mismanagement and government interference.

And those coal fired plants were designed to last 30 years and usually exceeded 40 years via life extension programs.

Multimillion dollar solar project gets reduced to a heap of toxic rubble by one single hail storm.. Nebraska.. 14,000 solar panels.. Not recyclable / have to bury it like windmill blades.
