Veteran Member of Parliament Diane Abbott, Britain's longest-serving female legislator, has once again been suspended by the Labour Party, Reuters reports.
The disciplinary action, announced Thursday, stems from Abbott's recent defense of previous comments concerning racism, which had initially led to her suspension in 2023.
Abbott, a prominent figure in British left-wing politics and the first Black woman elected to Parliament, faced her initial suspension from the Labour Party in 2023. At that time, she stated that the prejudice experienced by Jewish people was akin to, but distinct from, racism.
She subsequently issued an apology and retracted her remarks. The 71-year-old lawmaker was readmitted to the Labour Party just weeks prior to the national election in July 2024, a decision that followed internal party pressure.
However, in an interview on Thursday, when asked by BBC Radio if she regretted the 2023 incident, Abbott responded, "No, not at all."
She elaborated on her perspective, stating, "Clearly, there must be a difference between racism which is about color and other types of racism because you can see a Traveller or a Jewish person walking down the street, you don't know. But if you see a black person walking down the street, you see straight away that they're black. They are different types of racism."
Following these remarks, a spokesperson for the Labour Party confirmed that Abbott had been "administratively suspended pending an investigation."

The statement happens to be accurate. BFD.
UK politics has crossed over into insanity. So hypersensitive about "anti-Semitism" that they suspend an MP over nonsense, while Jews are getting assaulted on the streets and in front of the synagogues. Boy who cried wolf, indeed. If I were Brit I wouldn't vote Labour regardless, but would be even less inclined to do so over this crap.

Because you can see a Traveller or a Jewish person walking down the street, you don’t know.
But if you see a black person walking down the street, you see straight away that they’re black.
They are different types of racism.”
The UK’s Deep State recently “postponed” the elections for 9 Councils.
It just allowed 16 YOs the ability to vote, removed the requirement for phot ID at the polls, will go to automomatic voter registration, and increased the period for mail-in from 11 days to two weeks.
Abbott is a distraction.
...photo ID...
No wonder their Deep State has no intention of allowing Pres. Trump to speak before Parliament...
Well, Mr. President. If it can be secured, there’s always Speaker’s Corner, isn’t there... :-)
Britain’s Maxine Waters. Elected till she dies, and dumb as a rock. But the poster above gets it right. The change to 16 y.o. voters and ban on voter ID will destroy the UK even faster than it was already destined to be.
Who says we cahnt act fast. Eh, wot? Here in the UK, we do death wishes right.
I would agree with her that there are lots of different types of racism——or in the least that the term can be (and is) applied to an extremely broad spectrum of behaviors which have very little in common. Telling a joke that draws upon sterotypes with no ill-will whatsoever and actively pushing forward with a largely effective plan for genocide can be described by the same term.
People who identify with their majority heritage against their minority heritage (and are identified by others who are prejudiced against a minority of heritage) do complicate things.
I had a set of greatX3 or so grandparents in Missouri in 1861 who named their son Jefferson Davis Scott. Jefferson Davis Scott, and at least one of his parents, almost certainly had African blood, but the family didn’t identify by that, even though some of the neighbors, if they had access to genetic testing, would have identified them as non-white.
The Pope’s mother was born white in Illinois, while all of her older siblings were born coloured in Louisiana.
Were people who voted for Wallace racist? His final victory was courtesy of an overwhelming percentage of the Black vote while losing the white vote.
Down in Birmingham, we love the governor. We all did what we had to do.
Sheila Jackson Lee is unmistakably black, and has her surname from Robert E., who fought for the Confederacy.
“t just allowed 16 YOs the ability to vote, removed the requirement for phot ID “
They’re making sure that the left stays in power.
Fascinating comments. Thank you
Wallace switched sides in the segregation issue, once he saw that the CRA of ‘64 wasn’t the unmitigated disaster that he feared. It was only a mitigated disaster, because it was so badly drafted that it opened the door for decades of affirmative action.
P!ss-poor distraction at that. She actually didn’t say anything even slightly offensive this time, though I’m sure once the heat is off she’ll probably insult some group or other just to stay in practice. The only “distraction” is Labour’s overreaction.
Not just in the UK.
Over the last few hours similar stories have popped up in Canada’s and Australia’s enemedia...
Didn’t the Dems try this in the US after 2016? It didn’t fly, but it’s the thought that counts.
16 year olds can’t be trusted with an open liquor cabinet, a Corvette, or your daughter, but let’s let them decide the fate of the country.
Kind of makes one believe in the ‘hidden hand’.
I’m much more worried about government censoriousness than I am about the minor intellectual difference she is calling out.
Exactly. This is stupid censorship, but it’s still censorship.
