In fire-ravaged Los Angeles, an idea so bad even its sponsor has now disowned it
American Thinker ^ | July 17, 2025 | Monica Showalter

In California, some radical far-left ideas don't seem to be drawing the applause they were expected to draw.

Which brings us to one state Sen. Ben Allen, a Santa Monica statehouse senator who put out a proposed law so stinky, so stanky, so vile, he skedaddled backward as fast as his little legs would carry him.

At a time when the County of Los Angeles has witheld rebuilding permits for all but seven of the 17,000 homeowners who lost their homes in the fires they caused, Allen's SB 549 authorized the state to go around buying up burned properties in fire-ravaged areas, including Altadena and Pacific Palisades, and converting those lots into crime-box high-rise apartment projects for the benefit of the homeless and the "justice-involved individuals."

It made sense from a leftist point of view. Many leftists have gone into low-income housing construction -- and could potentially benefit from construction of crime-box apartments to house bums and criminals who belong in jail.

That would be quite a reward for the bums, given that they set so many of these fires, and an incentive to them to set more fires, given that the prize is now beachfront property.

High-density housing, which is present in yet another bad bill likely to be scrapped, SB 79, described here, will ensure a dependent class that reliably votes Democrat, and thus, changes the character of the neighborhoods.

And the fact that Los Angeles neglected so much before the fires that it appears as though this was the plan all along.

Now he says he's had the bill "paused," after public input even though it had been expected to pass.

The public response apparently alarmed him.

His phone must have been on fire.

These people are very f’kn scary. This is exactly what smart people have warned us against. It’s exactly what they feared.

First the left took over California politics by one dirty trick after another, but it’s not enough for them. They’d love to give tyrannical communism another try.

It makes one wonder WHO actually made sure the place would go up in flames…empty reservoir and all. Mayor gone. Wouldn’t surprise me if Newsom and the mayor let the place burn up on purpose because it was their plan.

Maybe we should just give California back to Mexico and be done with it.

And don’t forget that LA will be hosting the Olympics in 2028. Makes me wonder if those fires were deemed necessary for the PTBs in California to be able to build what they want in prep for that event.

This is going just the way Adam Carolla said it would a week after the fire.

Insurance companies pulled out.
Reservoirs empty. Hydrants empty.
Fires intentionally set.
Mayor out of the country.
And the people that suspected that all this was intentional were labeled as conspiracy kooks have been proven right.

The pisser is all those innocent homeowners who lost their homes have no recourse. But there will be some “friends” of the governor and mayor that will make out like bandits on the new construction projects.

Trump maybe suspects something, so he threw a wrench in their high speed rail.

Unfortunately, with the way the corrupt California Legislature operates, in year 2 of the 2-year legislative cycle, look for this bill to sneak through.

when late August 2026 arrives, the sleazoid Dem lawmakers (yes, I realize that’s redundant) often take a bill that is greatly advanced in the process but stuck, strike through all of the words, and “amend” that bill with the wording of whatever it is they want to sneak through in the final weeks of the legislative session.

It would be unsurprising if this chicanery occurs at that time. It happens in August of every even-numbered year.

Well one thing’s for sure. One thing we know about the radical left (Democrats). We know they’re always up to ‘something’ diabolical. That’s a constant in the universe. And I don’t just mean the Democrats in California.
