LAFAYETTE — Five people, including several current and former head law enforcement officers, were taken into custody earlier in the week and indicted on an alleged scheme involving falsifying crimes to facilitate immigration visa fraud for profit, national and state officials announced Wednesday.
Officials said four current and former law enforcement agents were taken into custody Monday as well as a Oakdale business owner. The following people are being indicted after the U.S. Attorney's Office in Shreveport returned a 62-count indictment for the alleged immigration conspiracy:
- Oakdale Police Chief Chad Doyle - Oakdale Ward 5 Marshal Mike "Freck" Slaney - Forest Hill Police Chief Glynn Dixon - Former Glenmora Police Chief Tebo Onishea - Oakdale Subway restaurant owner Chandrakant Patel
The five men are being charged with conspiracy to commit visa fraud, mail fraud and money laundering, while Patel is being charged with bribery. The law enforcement agents are also being charged with several counts each of visa fraud.

The process to apply for a U-Visa begins with a petition where a law enforcement official must certify that the alleged crime happened and that the victim cooperated with law enforcement in the criminal investigation... To be eligible for a U-Visa, a petitioner must prove they suffered substantial physical or mental harm due to certain crimes...
"There was an unusual number of armed robberies of people not from Louisiana in some of our small communities in Louisiana and they were alleging those people were victims of armed robberies," Van Hook said. "In fact, the armed robberies never took place and those listed on the applications were never victims of crimes."
Patel then allegedly paid the indicted law enforcement officers $5,000 per false report to provide appropriate documentation to allow for the approval of the nonimmigrant U-Visas.

Now, it’s off to Angola! I bet they were wishing it was in Africa.
Damn things are an IMMIGRATION LOOPHOLE - if you’re Illegal and then you report a violent crime (real or not), you get a Green Card! I suspect there’s a HUGE AMOUNT of fraud in that system.
I went through Oakdale last month. There ain’t much to it.
$5k per visa. Dirty cops, they’ll have fun in the big house.
Corruption? In Louisiana? Surely this is a mistake! /s
Patel looks like he has a vibrator shoved up his butt.
Thanking you very kindly for the initiation to what’s coming!
Our family biz hated doing jobs there. Reluctant to part with their $$$.
(Patel looks like he has a vibrator shoved up his butt.)
I wonder if he’s kin to Kash.
He’s trying to look as weird as possible so he’s not recognized from his mug shot.
Doyle says "It's not a vibrator ..."
Thats a hardened criminal move right there.
I have seen tons of mug shots in my day. The vast majority of them do this.
Glad to see “speed trap” Dixon going down....whadda POS.
It’s been alledged that on many ocassions, 2 miles/hour UNDER the posted speed limit would net ya a ticket, especially IF you were happening to drive an expensive, high-end vehicle. Several small towns around that area are well-known for alledgedly doing the same thing. Forest Hill and Woodsworth are notorious for it.
Only WBRZ would say Lafayette is western Louisiana.
Lafayette is the northern tip of the heart of true Cajun Country. That was all considered SOUTH Louisiana when we lived there for nearly.a decade.
Lake Charles is Southwest Louisiana, and Fort Polk is what I would call western Louisiana.
You drive south from Lafayette to Abbeville or New Iberia and tell them you just came from western Louisiana and they’d laugh at you.
Even Crowley to the west of Lafayette is still “South Looziana.”
