Colorado AG joins 21 states seeking mask ban for ICE agents

DENVER (KDVR) — Colorado Attorney General Phil Weiser has joined a coalition of 21 state attorneys general on Tuesday who are calling on Congress to prohibit federal immigration agents from wearing masks and plainclothes.

About six months after President Donald Trump signed immigration executive orders, the coalition has sent a letter to congressional leaders asking for action. This comes after “alarming reports” of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers are said to be operating without identification, dressed in civilian clothing and using unmarked vehicles.

“In Colorado, we promote responsible and trustworthy law enforcement through transparency and well-trained professionals subject to appropriate oversight,” said Attorney General Weiser. “By contrast, secretive enforcement tactics, other than in exceptional situations, undermine public trust, threaten public safety, and violate the principle that law enforcement officers must be identifiable and accountable to the people they serve. Congress must act now to protect that trust, safeguard public safety, and ensure that all enforcement operations uphold our democratic values.”

The letter also stated that the current practices by ICE not only spreads fear in communities, but also creates public safety risks, which have included impersonations of ICE agents.

The coalition of attorneys general are from the following states: Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, the District of Columbia, Delaware, Hawaii, Illinois, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Oregon, Rhode Island, Vermont and Washington.

The coalition noted at the end of the letter that “as a general rule, if the federal authorities are confident that their practices are lawful and just, they should not fear identifying themselves.”

EVERYBODY should be demanding mask bans. That’s just plain jackbooted BS. Masked cops are ALWAYS a bad idea.

Police cars have screens to protect the people in the front seats from the people in the back seats.

Also, the rear inside door handles won’t open the doors.

Cops tend to have very arrogant voices.

Federal agents might bring unmasked local police along for the arrests in the back seats.

The local police can comfort the lawful people, if any, and then call dispatch for a back to the squad house.

Why is no one trying to ban masks for Antifa, BLM and illegals?

YEAH! I mean, I assume you're cool with the Feds also providing security for every ICE agent's family and residence? I say unmask the "jack-booted" cops because 'discostu' is either cool with their families being targeted by Leninists/Maoists or he's cool with federal protection for their families.

¡Gee, a Donald Trump $1 bill!

¿Where did you get that?

¡From the ICE cash office, Señor Ilicto!

¡And it’s stamped with red ink for today’s arrests!

A republic only operates in the light. If your government agents needs the dark it ain’t the good guys. Plenty of cops making much worse enemies don’t where masks. This “their families will be targeted” is a lie. Sad excuse for the end of due process.

Same goes for protesters. If they’re not breaking the law and are merely ‘lawfully protesting’, they should not be wearing masks or concealing their identity. Make it illegal for them to do so. Unless or until that happens, ICE agents can wear masks as well. It’s only fair.

Ah. I see you’re repeating all the progressive leftist’s catch phrases. I suspected as much about you but your “eNd Of DuE PrOcEsS” lie is most telling. Good luck living in your mass formation psychosis with all the other NPC’s.

Mask bans for ICE agents, but not for rioters. Seems legit.

No. I’m repeating how this very board USED TO THINK. Back in the days when we knew the Patriot Act wasn’t patriotic. Back when the board wasn’t just parrots. Remember everything somebody you voted for can do somebody you voted against can do. Good luck when a Democrat president decides YOU deserve to disappeared by masked men.

We do have some jackasses on this very forum who equate ICE agents wearing masks to hide their identity from violent Leftists as they enforce laws we voted for to Death Squads in failed narco-terrorist states who take innocent people away in the middle of the night to murder them.

Not kidding. We have those people in our forum who refuse to acknowledge that crucial context.

So they just paint their faces black or with camou paint....or like Indians!

For the same reason...taxing us citizens and using the money on members of another country.

He looks like a real "Tough-On-Crime" type, doesn't he.

What’s next, get a red light ticket of speed camera ticket. Then go to court and put the actual camera in the witness stand. You know to stop “hiding behind a mask”
The hen then the camera can’t verbally answer cross examination, ticket dismissed.

Am I the only one to ask this question?:

Can states dictate/mandate the attire of federal employees?

Of course they can't. Which is why they're trying to get together to pressure the Feds to do it.

I'm not the biggest fan of the Feds, but in this case I hope they tell the States to piss off.
