DENVER (KDVR) — Colorado Gov. Jared Polis on Monday took executive action in response to President Trump’s tariff policy Polis says “is causing uncertainty for many key Colorado Industries."
The executive order “Concerning the State of Colorado’s Response to Increased Costs for Colorado Consumers, Producers, and Manufacturers Stemming from U.S. Tariff Policy” directs the Colorado Office of Economic Development and International Trade to create a task force dedicated to assisting Colorado agencies in developing strategies to reduce tariff impacts and combat uncertainty across different economic sectors.
The inflation from tariffs that economists feared begins to emerge
“We are taking action, standing up to protect jobs and keep Colorado’s economy thriving,” Polis said in a press release. “Tariffs do not work, and we will continue to prove that what Americans and Coloradans need most is certainty and stability, not whiplash tariffs driving up the cost of groceries and goods.”
The Associated Press on Tuesday morning reported inflation rose last month to its highest level since February as the sweeping tariffs push up the cost of a range of goods.
Trump has insisted repeatedly that there is “no inflation.”
Additional to increased costs to consumers, Polis also pointed out Colorado’s export partners including Mexico and Canada.
Colorado exported $1.7 billion in goods to Mexico in 2024, representing 17 percent of the state’s total goods exports, followed by Canada at $1.6 billion, according to Polis’ office, and the economic impact on Colorado of visitors from the U.S.’s neighbors to the north and south is almost $250 million.
Polis’ order also directs the Governor’s Office of State Planning and Budgeting to produce a report estimating the tariffs’ impact on Colorado and directs the executive directors of the Department of Agriculture, the Office of Economic Development and International Trade and the Department of Labor and Employment to develop plans on how to adapt state agencies and programs based on this impact.
The Associated Press contributed to this report.
Colorado is a new California. It isn’t President Trump’s tariffs that are screwing up that joint.
Wholesale price index for June — zero change. I guess AP needs to write another hit piece.
Sounds like they're not going to get much done :)
This is a political panic reaction.
It is far to soon to attempt to evaluate tariff facts in a totally fluid condition.
Fine. Then let Colorado be exempted from any windfalls we get as a result of the tariffs.
This scum governor is your typical dimwit LIB. The politicians (and voters) there have really screwed-up Colorado.
AP = Asinine Propaganda.
He thinks he’s going to be, in the future.
“Whiplash”, the new product from the Ministry of Information wordsmiths. It’s being used in concert nationwide from every media outlet. I can’t stomach much more of these people. It’s best to just go Amish. Shun it all.
“... screwing up that joint.”
Joint is an appropriate word...
Translation: We're going to give money to our buddies to work with our other buddies, who we also give your money to, to combat uncertainly.
Well I'm certain about one thing. The taxpayer is getting the shaft.
Joint is an appropriate word...
Beat me to it!!
What there any save us from federal govt policies legislation enacted a few years ago when inflation climbed to 9% on the back of massive government spending?
The sodomites leading the USA have a big club. We’re not in it.
Very funny and True!
Gov swells up and states unequivocally “Tariffs do not work”
and further states “We are taking ACTION”.
So what is this action?
Well he’s going to direct somebody to direct somebody
to form a committee to evaluate how to hire a consultant to study the effect
of the tariffs on Colorado.
Furthermore he’s going to direct somebody to direct some department heads to form some committees to develop some plans to offset the as yet unknown negative effects of the tariffs even though the study still is just a gleam in some consultants eye.
Obviously DEI and LGBTQ considerations will have to be made as well.
The elected officials in this country are a joke.
Sometimes it’s good to be 74
Still tons of ignorance out there that will NEVER be persuaded.
