What is Rocket Lab launching into space and why are people angry about it?
The Spinoff ^ | July 9, 2025 | Gabi Lardies

The most recent protests, from Friday, were led by Palestine Solidarity Network Aotearoa (PSNA). Beyond the pickets, the group, along with a lawyer, have referred Rocket Lab CEO Peter Beck, minister for space and for defence Judith Collins and others to the office of the prosecutor of the International Criminal Court. Why? Because PSNA believes that Rocket Lab activities may have intentionally contributed to war crimes, crimes against humanity and genocide committed by Israel.

In a statement provided to The Spinoff, a Rocket Lab spokesperson said the company “strongly refutes PSNA’s false and irresponsible claims” and that it is considering its legal options. They followed with a bullet-pointed summary of New Zealand’s legal requirements for launching rockets.

Rocket Lab’s website says that its launches, numbering over 200 since 2018, have enabled “operations in national security, scientific research, space debris mitigation, Earth observation, climate monitoring, and communications”. In the past the company has said it does not and will not launch weapons as this is against its commitment and New Zealand law.

They breed like cockroaches? DNA of so-called "Palestinian" arabs in Gaza matches the DNA of Jordanian arabs - that is their true homeland. Palestine is a corruption of Philistine, the Philistines were wiped out thousands of years ago, and until recent times Palestinian referred to Jews living in Israel. So yeah, not only is there no genocide committed by Israel, there are no true rights of arabs to the land which Jordan stole from the Jews about 1948 (annexed 1950) and that Israel took back in 1967.

As long as these articles keep appearing around Israeli genocide and IDF killing civilians I’ll keep posting this piece of reality about civilian deaths in warfare. The very fact Hamas says they can count the number killed means these people were within the boundaries of their control.

The Geneva Conventions, which attempt to grasp rational, moral threads to apply during wars’ barbarity formed the basis for our operations. For my Navy experience helping to pulverize a major enemy base in the Mekong Delta of Vietnam, I especially liked the obvious reading of Articles 28 and 29 of the Fourth Geneva Convention. The VC were responsible for any civilian deaths in the base our ship shelled. Those civilians qualified as Protected Persons within the enemy’s physical control and could not be used to render certain points and areas immune from military operations. The Convention articles are as follows:

ART. 28. — The presence of a protected person may not be used to render certain points or areas immune from military operations.

ART. 29. — The Party to the conflict in whose hands protected persons may be, is responsible for the treatment accorded to them by its agents, irrespective of any individual responsibility which may be incurred.

The passages furnished the basis for rules of engagement we followed when attacking a legitimate military target. The base the SEAL team identified in the U Minh forest had been continuously used at least since the Vietnamese had fought the Japanese, so families of the VC would have been residents as well. Distance provided me with the blessing of avoiding the cleanup afterwards for the mess I helped create. However, I am certain our task force was effective. We helped to permanently shatter the last intact VC main force unit, forcing it to surrender the region to South Vietnamese control.

They are all butthurt about BlackSky those are high rez multi spec birds that can see submeter rez and through haze, clouds and smoke. With high spatial return rates and AI they offer high temporal return as well. They are world class targeting birds for air strikes and post strike assessments. You need imagery like this to make digital scene matching targeting maps for your cruise missiles and drones.

Just wait till Israel puts up a starlink style network with imagery hosted payloads that would be 24/7 real time World wide down to a few tens of centimetres resolution. The USA DOD is doing just this with Starshield using starlink buses with hosted payloads and laser links plus huge phased array antennas you have a global SAR radar and imagery network 24/7/365 with 3 to 4 birds over every sq mile of earth and repeat times of under 4 min.

No where anywhere would no be under at least 3 birds continuously it fundamentally changes the Intel game.
