Sending Ukraine offensive weapons could push Russian President Vladimir Putin to the negotiating table, retired Adm. James Stavridis, the former NATO supreme allied commander, said on Monday.
Speaking ahead of the announcement of the U.S.-NATO weapons deal for Ukraine, Stavridis said he was hoping the deal would “move beyond strictly defensive weapons, such as the Patriot missiles, which are the air defense systems that the Ukrainians desperately need.”
“What I would like to see is a provision for the United States to send more harpoon missiles to go after the Black Sea fleet, more HIMARS, surface-to-surface weapons that can reach deep behind Russian lines, more offensive cyber capability, and Kate, maybe some more F-16 aircraft, all of which are very capable offensively,” Stavridis said in an interview with CNN’s Kate Bolduan on Monday.
“I think that is what could move Putin to the negotiating table, which is what we want on our side,” he continued.
Trump announced Monday he brokered a deal to send more weapons to Ukraine without burdening the United States. Under the deal, weapons would be sourced from NATO allies in Europe who just agreed to step up their defense spending at a summit President Trump hailed as a success.
While Trump said these deals would include Patriot missile defense batteries critical for Ukraine to guard its skies under increasing Russian bombardment, there was little information on what other weapons systems Trump would be greenlighting for countries to purchase or what would be prioritized.
“It’s everything. It’s Patriots. It’s all of them. It’s a full complement with the batteries,” Trump said, adding that the batteries could arrive in Ukraine within days.

You are not well. I feel bad for you. Have for years. Your mind is absolutely gone.
stupid remarks why would anyone want to weaken the United States.
Except a Russia worshipper.
Putin has been clear that certain things are non-negotiable. The West can’t believe him because it thinks everything is negotiable. So Trump is flustered, and maybe he should just take Putin at his word.
Interesting, perhaps that’s what drives the warmongers. Can’t blame you for cashing-in though - wish I thought of it!
Russia claims they won't have to use nukes because the Oreshnik missiles can be just as effective as tactical nukes. They are currently rolling off the assembly lines in a mass production effort. Looks like we insist on learning a lesson the hard way.
I think we are going to find out that Trump will be much better at inflicting economic pain on Russia than Biden/Autopen. Also, military tactics may experience a change for the better as well.
“Russia ends up winning Napoleon and Hitler tried but failed I guess our current leaders follow in those footsteps thinking they are better than those two guys.
But alas we are all such wicked sinners.”

Different circumstances entirely. In your examples, Napoleon and Hitler were both invaders of Russia. In the case of Hitler, the USSR would have been overrun by Germany had not the USA been the “arsenal of Democracy” and supported the Soviet forces with aircraft, naval vessels, tanks, and lots of ammunition and food until the USSR could get its own manufacturing running again in secure areas.
Russia invaded Ukraine after signing a treaty with that nation that it would not do so. That’s the reality.
Their debt to GDP ratio is around 21%. Ours is around 124%.
Who’s broke?
“Secondary sanctions against China and India for buying Russian oil from their shadow fleet.”
Care to guess where our medications are made?
“because they want to weaken and neuter the U.S., and don’t care if the U.S. gets in WWIII with russia...”
Maybe the first part explains why Zelensky campaigned for Harris. The second part has been their goal all along.
Interesting?
Is he the one bypassing President Trump with our Ukraine involvement?
DJT is out of his league, being advised/influenced by RINOs and ds who want a war.
It could also lead to the latter.
I hope that he proves me wrong, but my other hand is still full. So this is deeply troubling to some of us, myself in particular.
Indeed.
The British, Brussels, DC Atlanticists and Zelensky ALL want and need to drag Trump into this war, and make it “Trump’s war” (and the USA’s war)
Trump’s already at the edge of being permanently tarred.
Yeah, after the Maidan Coup plotters threatened and BANNED the majority "Party of the Regions" political party, which supported Yanukovich.
Is "Lozo" Ukrainian for "loser?" Your BS is so tiresome.
“Looks like we insist on learning a lesson the hard way.”

You’d think after all these useless and expensive wars that accomplished nothing and put us on the verge of bankruptcy that people would wise up. The deep state both here and in Europe want war with Russia. They have this delusional notion that we can win a war against them and then break up Russia into 5 states and grab their natural resources in the process. I was counting on Trump to put the kibosh on that plan but lately he’s starting to wobble on some things.
You need to start supporting Trump and not Putin, amigo.
Not one time in their history has Russia attacked a country for annexation.....hahahahaha
It has ALWAYS fought wars for the defense of the Rodina. It just believes that in order to “defend” itself...it has to attack and kill everyone that might be a threat...every time...all the time.
If you look back, I’ve stated that Ukraine will be ending up like Korea, Moldova is next to defend it’s Ukrainian flank, as well as the Baltics....in order to defend the poor vulnerable Russians in Kallingrad Oblast... hahahahahaha...
If a dumbass like me can figure it out, I’m sure the geniuses at the State Dept, DOD and 3 letter agencies know this as well...
My suggestion...do what I did a couple of year ago. Buy stock in Palantir, AeroVironment, Northrop Grumman Corporation,NVIDIA Corporation, Lockheed , Kratos,Anduril Industries
or just buy stocks in companies the congress buys... because corporations love wars.
Since Russia was the aggressor and initiated the warfare, any weapons Ukraine uses can properly be called defensive.
