A knockoff baseball cap using the New York Mets’ orange and blue colors and iconic “NY” logo to boost Democratic socialist Zohran Mamdani’s mayoral campaign is being hawked online – without permission from the club or Major League Baseball, The Post has learned.
The cap reads “Zohran for NY Mayor,” with the interlocking “NY” being the trademarked Mets logo.
Some sellers, such as Good Shirts, which was charging $29.95 Friday for the commie cap, claim on their websites that “a portion of proceeds will be donated to Zohran Mamdani’s campaign fund.”
Another online seller, Eletees, was charging $40.95 per cap and boasts it’s “perfect for Mets games, political rallies, or casual outings, offering a stylish way to show support for both the team and the candidate.”
Selling unauthorized merchandise that uses MLB team logos, names and other trademarks is considered trademark infringement, and the league has a long history of suing bogus sellers.
MLB said it was unaware of the Mamdani Mets’ caps until notified by The Post and would review the matter. The Mets did not return messages.
Mamdani campaign spokesman Andrew Epstein said Mamdani is a Mets fan but has nothing to do with knockoff caps or its sellers.

I did not see my first Reds game until 1990 at Riverfront (1-0 Reds win with a Paul O’Neill walk off home run in the bottom of the ninth), so I root for the Reds in the present day and will occasionally root for the Indians.
However, about a year or so prior to that, I got into baseball history and developed a love for the game and a permanent obsession with the Brooklyn Dodgers and the 1947-1957 Dodgers in particular. Naturally, I consider the move of the Dodgers and Giants to have been a sports tragedy.
I also love old ballparks, the New York ballparks especially. One of my Dad’s best friends from the Air Force, Col. G, grew up in New York in the 30’s and 40’s and saw Giant games at the Polo Grounds, Yankee games at Yankee Stadium, and Dodger games at Ebbets Field.
Nice ! Not a Ken Burns fan, but I liked that Baseball Series he did, particularly The Capital of Baseball (or something like that) about MLB in NYC in the 50’s.
As a Mets fan I am OK with the Giant/Dodger exodus (same year I was born). Been to all three Yankee Stadia, Shea, and just recently (2023) Citi Field (moved out West in 1981). Saw your Reds dismantle the Yanks in Game 4 of the ‘76 World Series, in a $4.00 bleacher seat. Been to a ton of Dodger games, at Chavez Ravine, mostly to see The Mets, of course. Lot of Halo games in Anaheim (20 miles from home).
Indians - Good for you !!!!!
My understanding from the article is that it isn’t Mamdani’s campaign peddling these caps and shirts.
It’s third party entrepreneurs selling their stuff for their profit…not Mamdani’s profit.
I don’t see how the campaign can be held liable,
Foul! Mets logo ‘illegally’ co-opted to promote socialist Zohran Mamdani’s NYC mayoral bid

You don’t think they got his approval?
Where’s Homeland Security? Back when the KC Royals made the World Series, DHS raided a lingerie shop selling panties without proper license to display the KC Royals logo. I kid you not.
Here, the infringement is a lot worse. They are not just illegally appropriating a trademark, they are associating it with a vile political movement that could cause serious economic damage to the Mets and MLB.
“The Giant Orange and Dodger Blue were the genesis of the Mets Colors.”
Yep, swiped the colors and took as many ex-Dodgers and Giants in the expansion draft as they could. Doomed thm to last place finishes for years.
What the F’ has happened to these people? Do they have zero education about communism and economics?
Some folks might say that a lowly expansion team built their team in a manner that would appeal to the local fan base, in 1962, and before the decade was over, became World Series Champions ! Thanks :)
” and before the decade was over, became World Series Champions ! Thanks :)”
True. All those last place finishes gave them lots of high draft choices. Tomm Seaver was one. I have lots of memories from those days. Then I was both a Mets and a Yankees fan. One of my best experiences was our dad took us to the Polo Grounds the last year it was open.
Polo Grounds ? I am jealous! All my pals were Yankee fans, so if I wanted to go to a game, it was at The Stadium. Only my brothers would go with me, to Shea.
