President Trump is considering authorizing fresh funding for Ukraine for the first time since he took office in January, multiple diplomatic sources told CBS News.
The sources indicated the new funding could be intended to send a message to Russia, which has pounded Ukraine with drone and missile attacks in recent days. Russia this week launched what Ukraine described as the largest drone attack since its full-scale invasion began in February 2022 — the latest in a wave of aerial assaults that have pummeled Kyiv and other cities.
Mr. Trump hinted earlier this week that he planned to send Ukraine more defensive weapons. Just days earlier, his administration paused some arms shipments — a move one White House official cast as one part of a wider global review of weapons transfers.
The source of the possible new funding for Ukraine is unclear. But U.S. officials told CBS News Mr. Trump has $3.85 billion in leftover Biden-era presidential drawdown authority sitting at his fingertips, which could be used to send American military equipment to Ukraine. Former officials also told CBS News the president has the authority to seize around $5 billion in foreign Russian assets and direct the funds to Ukraine, though neither he, nor former President Joe Biden have used that power.

He even said Zelensky didn’t have any cards left to play, yet he keeps dealing with him. He’s doing things that he said others were stupid for doing.
Trump has not see the cards that Putin was about to play. Then, "BLAM!", a new reality, and a new vies of the war was presented. You can't deal with terrorists nor with tyrants nor with former KGB agents.

Its extremely important. And I’m grateful for what he has done to secure it. But legal actions are needed to go after the sanctuary cities which are magnets for illegal immigration.

You’re just a war mongering nutjob. The US is $37 trillion in debt. Do you think adding an additional trillion or 2 to that figure is in US interests? Ukraine is by far the most corrupt country in Europe and probably sold half of the military equipment we’ve sent them on the black market. And for all practical purposes the war has been lost in case you haven’t noticed. I can’t imagine anyone in their right mind would support a continuation of this war.

I thought Trump did not want further commitment of additional funding to the Ukraine. Were we mislead?

This would be absolutely outrageous given that the vast majority of the base don't want another penny spent on Ukraine.
Wasting more money on Ukraine undermines any cuts made.
There is no national interest in Ukraine.

Seventy-nine percent of Republican Party supporters in the United States oppose continuing aid to Ukraine in its defense against Russia, The Wall Street Journal reported on April 6, citing the results of its latest survey.

Exactly!
Trump did make many promises in order to get elected, and he's actually kept most of them.
Some promises could not be kept, since he didn't have the entire picture before he got in. Looking from the outside is a lot easier than when you see things from the inside, and then you have to NOT DO the things you had promised, because, you get a different picture that you hadn't seen before.
Even if the Epstein files showed many people in power doing very illegal and unpleasant things, some of those names could create a lot more problems if they were disclosed. Even if Biden or Bill Clinton were one of those names, there would be nothing to gain from it, not anymore. And it's likely that some of those names were closely allied with Trump and other republicans, which would give rise to a lot more problems, for republicans and democrats alike. The courts and government agencies would be hobbled by so many issues arising from the files; we'd be crippled and a lot of other issues would get little or no attention. Trump could end up in trouble with democrats accusing him or guilt by association because he knew somebody in those files.
Sometimes, it's best to keep some things hidden from the public. Let those details be disclosed some 30 years in the future when it no longer matters.
