Superman is the symbol of Truth, Justice, and the American Way.
Not to say he doesn’t do “kindness and friendship” but that’s not what he’s the symbol of.
“I mean, Superman is the story of America,” the Superman director told The Times U.K. in a new profile. “An immigrant that came from other places and populated the country, but for me it is mostly a story that says basic human kindness is a value and is something we have lost.”
When asked how the blockbuster may be perceived in predominantly red versus blue states, especially amid prevailing anti-immigrant and refugee sentiment, Gunn responded, “Yes, it plays differently, but it’s about human kindness and obviously there will be jerks out there who are just not kind and will take it as offensive just because it is about kindness. But screw them.”
The director says it’s now, “truth, justice and the HUMAN way”.
Exactly what I was going to write!

Gunn made Jor El evil and Superman is a wimp in his own movie. Also, and overstuffed script. Just stick to Donner’s Superman
No. Superman SAYS “truth, justice and the American way” during a certain window when the comics industry was under heavy attack and that wanted to get Superman on TV.
He IS a symbol of kindness and friendship. And immigrant success. And also a little bit of Exodus and a bit of Samson. Really he is an allegory of Jewish immigration in the early 20th century.
