At least 3 people washed away in a truck. Don’t know if anyone was in the house.

Flash floods in arid areas are fairly common. I remember visiting a friend of mine in White Sands and asking him about the foot-marker stakes everywhere out in the middle of nowhere. They were water level markers he told me.

There is a large burn scar area there due to fires last year. Plus they got 3” of rain in a short time today. Beautiful part of the state, shame they can’t catch a break recently.

Wow, I was just near there, (in Capitan town) an hour ago.

I had no idea the rain was so bad there; Just a typical summer rainstorm around my place and a few puddles in Capitan.

Thanks for posting.

Dang. Those poor people there just can’t catch a break. Been a rough few years for them.

My son's home in Ruidoso was on a hilly plot with a small creek ten feet down the slope.

When I visited him I noticed mud three feet up the foundation and warned him to get flood insurance.

High country. Heavily forested. Mescalero Apache reservation. Beautiful!

I worked at WSMR for several years. There is a couple of USGS markers that are a couple of feet above ground level from when the major flash flood hit there. The main access road into WSMR is named Owen Road in memory of an Army SSGT who lost his life attempting to rescue a family stranded in the flood waters.

Well I made it to Walmart in Rui this AM.

Hwy is fine. The valley is a mess again.

I’m not sure flood insurance is available.

I live way up, so I’m fine. May get stuck again.

But that’s why I have a whole house generator that runs on both nat gas and a big propane bullet tank.

I’m glad you’re okay.

I grew up in northern NM and have been to your town numerous times and always enjoyed it.
