While people are distracted by the holidays and the Big Beautiful Bill, there is another serious push for immigration amnesty in Washington.
You'll hear the same lines we've always heard: Crops rotting in the field, economic collapse, global hunger, and more (even though countless other countries harvest plenty of food without needed imported serf labor)
Here’s the key thing to know: We’ve seen this EXACT same script run before. Literally, the same one. The 1986 Immigration Reform and Control Act, better known as the “Reagan Amnesty,” gave a path to citizenship for illegal immigrants who worked as farm laborers.
The 1986 bill, we were told, was a deal: We’d give amnesty to some illegal immigrants already in America, but in return we would get real border security for the future.
You already know how that turned out: We got all the amnesty, but none of the security. In fact, we got far more amnesty than expected.
The original proposal for the 1986 bill was to create a large pool of legal, seasonal guest workers who could come to America for the agricultural season, then return home. But then, 35-year-old House member Chuck Schumer swooped in. Schumer introduced an amendment that gave a free path to citizenship for any person in America illegally who had recently spent at least 90 days working in agriculture.
The New York Times, which actually claimed to view illegal immigration as a problem then, said Schumer’s amendment was worth it. Since only 15 percent of illegals worked in agriculture, they said, amnesty for those 15 percent was, quote, “a tolerable price for controlling the other 85 percent.”
So, how did that turn out? Well, in the end, it wasn’t a few hundred thousand people who got amnesty. It was 3 million people. Doubtless, some of them were never agricultural workers at all, or weren’t covered by the bill’s provisions. But once the path to amnesty and citizenship was there, it was easy to exploit. Those 3 million amnesties in turn led to millions of additional people coming into the U.S. via family reunification and chain migration: One amnestied worker later bringing in his wife, his children, his parents, his brother, and so on.
So, what happened with the border security part? It never happened. The 1986 bill was the first federal law to impose penalties for knowingly hiring illegal immigrants. Those laws still exist. But they simply go unenforced. Employers ignore them and almost never face consequences.
The border itself was never secured. By the late 90s, illegal immigration was at higher levels than ever before. And by the way, part of the argument for the amnesty was that it would create a pool of legal US citizens to be agricultural laborers, so illegals wouldn’t be sought out anymore. Yet almost immediately, they just started bringing in MORE illegals. And where we are, 40 years later, and they’re demanding another, even bigger amnesty.
For the people who want a great replacement, it was one of their biggest victories ever. They got amnesty for millions of criminals, and in return they gave promises they never delivered on.
Now, they think they can pull off the same scam again.
RINOs, Chamber of Commerce Republicans, Losertarians and DemocRATS are all of the same mind on this. Screw them all!
I don’t believe it for a second
Its against everything Trump believes.
If its not completely fake news, then Trump is smoking them out - to see who the enemies really are.
“Crops rotting on the vine with no one to pick them.”
While millions receive EBT cards.
Cut that nonsense and there will be plenty of people willing to do manual labor.
Right...that’s why he’s calling for a new and immediate census.
If amnesty is extended to farm workers, why not also to landscapers, roofers, and hotel staff as well?
Hell, why not to all workers?
To paraphrase the Iron Lady, Margaret Thatcher:
This is no time to go wobbly, Mr. Trump.
“Employers ignore them and almost never face consequences.”
Until employers who knowingly hire illegals receive devastating criminal prosecution the illegals will keep coming.
My guess is too many high-level Republicans were on that list. If it was straight Democrats it would have been published yesterday.
Time to automate agriculture. Or pay Americans better wages to pick crops.
NO Citizenship for them EVER. Nor their progeny.
America has more than enough ‘Rats.
Known as the “I promise I won’t ____ in your mouth” bill......
Time to automate agriculture. Or pay Americans better wages to pick crops.
“Hell, why not to all workers?”
Hell, why not to all new voters?
LOL Charlie is being told a pack of lies. Seriously, 25 million illegals getting amnesty, well someone forgot to tell ICE as they are rounding up illegals left and right
There are always deals. Those deals in Washington DC are never there for the American people, only a few rich and connected. Elon Musk is right, there is one party in Washington DC, and they want our money and not our opinions.
That being said, Trump isn’t going to fall for the same trick that Reagan got beat on. He wants all of the illegals out.
What’s wrong with a re-activated Bracero guest worker program? Why must it always amnesty and “pathway to citizenship”?
Amnesty, like illegal immigration itself, just lowers the wages of people who can afford it the least.
I'm not sure what you mean by “it” in the above.
That said, President Trump “floated a trial balloon” at the Iowa Fair rally over the weekend. He did not use the word “amnesty” however, he implied some sort of a “deal” and exceptions for farmers and resort/hotel/motel owners who rely on extensive illegal alien workers.
It is not time to panic or rant; however, the WH/GOP needs to know in polite but no uncertain terms that this type of “deal” is totally unacceptable and DOA.
"Mr. Trump" makes his money in construction, golf courses, hotels, and casinos, employing gobs of laborers, gardeners, maids, cooks...
I have argued since 2016 that he had no intent of deporting 'the good ones,' which is why all the talk about 'criminal aliens.'
Go after the employers.
