Germany was exploring the possibility of purchasing more Patriot air defense systems from the United States for Ukraine, a government spokesman said Friday, as Russia intensifies its aerial attacks.
Asked to comment on reports that the government in Berlin had reached out to Washington over a deal for new anti-missile systems, government spokesman Stefan Kornelius said he could “confirm that more intensive discussions are indeed taking place on this.”
Chancellor Friedrich Merz had raised the issue in a telephone call with US President Donald Trump on Thursday, Der Spiegel magazine reported subsequently. The exchange was confirmed to AFP by Kornelius.
The United States, which has been Kyiv’s biggest military backer since the launch of Russia’s full-scale invasion in 2022, said Tuesday it was halting some key weapons shipments to Ukraine.
Among the items affected according to US media were Patriot anti-missile systems, which Ukraine deploys to shield itself from Russian air attacks.
Moscow has in recent weeks ramped up missile and drone attacks on Ukraine, as US support for Kyiv has appeared to waver since Trump returned to office at the beginning of the year.
German officials were particularly concerned about the impact of a potential halt to deliveries of Patriot systems and ammunition, according to German media.
Berlin had spoken to US officials about a deal that would see it purchase the weapons on Kyiv’s behalf and deliver them to Ukraine.
Germany was waiting for a response from the US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth to a request for two Patriot units made “several weeks ago,” the German daily Bild reported.
Ukraine has long stressed its need to improve its air defense, including with more Patriot systems, but has struggled to source them.

Be sure to tack on an extra 5%.
Just because.
I remember I Dream of Jeannie and how things could materialize out of thin air.
Let’s see if the Neocons have that magic.
“””Be sure to tack on an extra 5%.

Don’t forget 10% for the Big Guy. Oh wait, he’s gone.
Yup. This time the American people can reap the benefit of Europe’s insatiable appetite for war.
Does this send a thrill up your leg MR?
If Germany supplies air defensive systems they will be pre-programmed to not fire on Nazis.
Support President Trump.
Period.
“Germany was exploring the possibility of purchasing more Patriot air defense systems from the United States for Ukraine...”
But the problem is we are still supplying arms to someone and ultimately that someone is not wishing to stop the supply with stopping the combat. For the first time since WW II we are at war with both sides and we can’t use weapons as a deterrent. They are the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. So the getting of them is the same as trying to bluff into a stand down with no confidence.
Whether we make a few bucks on the systems is not going to change the outcome of the conflict. And it is going to waste our resources for losing an untold amount of money in what we currently have in the Ukraine.
Cut off any intent to supply the Ukraine with more weapons. We never should have started the process especially one with a country that is expecting it from NATO of which they are not members. And the US is supplying 45% of the imports they receive. Then they will come to the tables with legit efforts to settle the conflict.

Putin is not interested in negotiating.
as a WWII trooper told me.
WE WOULD SHOOT A HEINIE, BUT WE WOULDNT EAT HIM!
Foreign Military Sales generally carry a premium to compensate for non-recurring engineering costs, i.e., the design and development costs. The foreign buyer purchases them from the U.S. government who owns the design, not the manufacturer. The government will offer discounts to purchasers, if it is deemed to be in in the U.S. interest to do so.
Patriot systems are always sold with strings attached, specifically a prohibition on resale without U.S. approval, and the strings are binding on the subsequent purchaser. When the cold war ended Germany and Japan transferred (sold) a number of Patriot batteries to South Korea. They first had to go to Andover (or other U.S. subcontractors, e.g., vehicle repainting in Pennsylvania) to be re-furbished and Fort Bliss to be tested. According to people I spoke to, units coming back from Japan and Germany were in better condition than when they were shipped.
U.S. Army units take a lot more wear and tear, but the U.S. trains harder and fights harder than other countries.
The Russians are taking ground even though iss costing thousands of soldiers a week. Putin is not counting the cost. He’s only counting the ground gains. They have embolden him to thin he can take all of Ukraine back— or whatever the portion is that counts the war in his column as a victory. C
This just means that the war still has a ways too go.
You don’t state a number Ukies killed. Only Ruzzians.
I guess Ukies have 0 Killed. LOL.
Tell Germany to take a number, senile Joe gave much away, America first.
Many have stated that they don’t care about the war, as long as we don’t spend any American money on it. But, when Germany offers to buy the armaments from us to send, these same posters object.
For those who can see, there are numerous pro-Russian posters who simply masquerade as disinterested neutral observers.
to thin he can take all of Ukraine back

No, only the ethnic Russian provinces…you know, the ones the Ukies had been shelling since 2014.
NO MORE AID TO ANYONE. Only loans. We are broke.
You’d be better off buying them for yourself instead of those tanks you plan on blowing a wad on.

I don’t actually know the exact number. Trump says its roughly 5000 a week killed on both sides—but he doesn’t say what percent of that 5000 is uke or rus.
Since its mostly about rus attacking and uke defending—you can probably guess the rus are losing more. How much more? I don’t know. But since the rus have a much larger population to draw from—in a war of attrition—which is what this has become—its a rus win.
