UPenn, Brown subpoenaed over alleged tuition price fixing

Two of the nation’s Ivy League institutions have yet to produce documents related to a congressional tuition price-fixing investigation launched earlier this year.

This, according to a subpoena issued by House Judiciary Committee on Tuesday to the University of Pennsylvania and Brown University, both of which have been accused of colluding with the nation’s six other Ivy League schools to inflate tuition prices and maximize profits.

Citing authority vested by the U.S. Supreme Court, committee Chairman Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, said the documents requested – regarding communications with other universities – will give lawmakers insight into crafting legislative reforms. Some may include “whether existing civil and criminal penalties and current antitrust law enforcement efforts are sufficient to deter anticompetitive practices among higher education institutions.”

The subpoena comes nearly a month after the committee heard from higher education advocacy groups and a student from Brown University about whether Ivy League institutions tailor financial aid packages, cut back on student services and shut out middle-class students as a way to fund multi-million-dollar administrative benefits.

**********

Its pretty common knowledge that education costs have risen well above the rate of inflation. Its about time that congress looked into this scam.

In related news. Purdue has not increased tuition for 13 years and counting.

Easy for them to do that because they can depend on federal loans.

We need to have zero federal loans.

If somebody needs a loan to go to a college, they should go to a bank instead.

Then we'll see all the universities stop raising their rates.

Better solution is to have the colleges guaranty the loans.

The Ivies need to be on an IV of their overbloated and undertaxed endowment funds.

I truly don't know anything about Brown, but it would appear that Penn has racked up some bad karma.

In spite of being in existence since before the American Revolution, Penn had never graduated a U.S. President until Donald J. Trump, unlike several of the other Ivies.

Yet when Trump was first elected, Penn's then-president Amy Gutmann* wrote a scathing denunciation in the University magazine, Penn Gazette (that has been in continuous publication since Benjamin Franklin founded it). A number of the alumni of Penn's Wharton School of Business from which Donald Sr and DonJr had graduated were encouraged to do the same on their web site.

Ivanka and Tiffany also graduated from Penn, in economics and pre-law, respectively, and were treated to the Penn admin's woke virtue-signaling platitudes about their father's “racism” due to his stand on illegal immigration. Tiffany was stil enrolled there, a few credits from graduation, at the time.

The powers that were at Penn been so convinced that Hillary would win that they had already awarded Joe Biden to an endowed chair and honorary professorship, with no actual duties other than bringing a big pile of funding to Penn—from China.

Penn gave Biden an office where, as you may have read, he casually stored classified documents he was reportedly not entitled to have retained from his time as Obama's Vice President. When Biden was installed as POTUS, he named *Amy Gutmann Ambassador to Germany. Later, Biden gave the nod to persecuting Donald Trump for storing classified documents from Trump's time as POTUS, which many legal commentators have claimed was Trump's legal right as the Chief Executive.

Deadly force. The authorized use of deadly force.

Have the loans from the college’s endowment.
