U.S. Representatives Josh Gottheimer (NJ-5) and Mike Lawler (NY-17) introduced the bipartisan Bunker Buster Act, legislation that authorizes the president to support Israel’s defense by providing the Massive Ordnance Penetrator (MOP), or “bunker buster” bomb, and the aircraft required to deploy it — to take out Iran’s underground nuclear infrastructure. Equipping Israel with this capability directly strengthens American national security by eliminating Iran’s pathway to a nuclear weapon.
Iran, directly and through its network of terror proxies, continues to target the United States, Israel, and our allies, while working to destabilize the region. The regime is responsible for the deaths of thousands of American civilians and servicemembers over the past four decades, attacking our bases, ships, and embassies.
The recent U.S. strikes using bunker buster bombs degraded Iran’s deep underground nuclear facilities. While diminished, Iran remains committed to enriching uranium and developing a nuclear weapon. In the face of ongoing threats, it is imperative to equip Israel with maximum deterrence so Iran cannot move ahead with their nuclear program.
The bipartisan Bunker Buster Act will:
Help ensure Iran can never threaten the U.S., Israel, or our allies with a nuclear weapon;
Give the President the authority to transfer the Massive Ordnance Penetrator (MOP) bomb, or “bunker buster,” and the aircraft necessary to carry it — if Iran is on the cusp of developing a weapon; and
Preserve Israel’s qualitative military edge in the region while maintaining the capacity to deter Iran.

Nice idea but Israel doesn’t have a anything that can deliver it on target.
The B-2 Spirit is the only aircraft currently capable of operationally carrying and delivering the GBU-57 MOP. The B-52 Stratofortress has been used for testing but is not an operational platform for this munition. The B-21 Raider is expected to carry the MOP in the future. No other aircraft, including those in allied fleets like Israel’s, are currently equipped or suitable for this task.

and the aircraft required to deploy it
Yeah, the Military Industrial Complex just found a new fried
Don't worry, Israel always gets what it wants -- with bipartisan support.
legislation that authorizes the president to support Israel’s defense by providing the Massive Ordnance Penetrator (MOP), or “bunker buster” bomb, and the aircraft required to deploy it.
fine, very fine (albeit LATE in coming, thanks to the miserable Biden regime!)
now let’s be sure that the Snake Dept doesn’t force Jerusalem to give away its victories (as it has so many times in the past)
Equipping Israel with this capability directly strengthens American national security
And or course, welfare for Israel is always characterized as being for our benefit. We give them free stuff, and we should be grateful for the opportunity.
If you READ the article, they propose to not just provide Israel with the MOP’s BUT, but also the means to deliver them. In other words, provide Israel with B-2’s. Of which we only possess 19.
Highly unlikely to become a reality.
“From the excerpt above-”and the aircraft required to deploy it”...
So it seems. Thats a big mofo.
I’m not for this.
The US need to remain the sole owners of bunker busters and the aircraft to carry them.
No to the bombs, no to the aircraft, no to the training. This remains our technology, period.
Besides, we've taken care of Iran (can't wait to hear Bibi's speech to the UN this Fall), are settling the war with Gaza and facilitating Israel's new beginnings with her neighbors through the Abraham Accords.
Now is the perfect time for Israel to put the safety back on their weapons, take some time off from war --- and focus on peace.
.
Not gunna happen, it won’t get past the senate even if gets out of the house.
Let them pay for it. They can dip into their free (U.S. taxpayer funded) healthcare money.
Gottheimer staffers must read FR.
👍 👍 👍
Doubtful Israelis would want so much resources devoted to such a limited task. Two B-2s and bombs would be at least a $5 billion deal and tie up huge IAF manpower.
This implies we will give Israel the B-2. Baaaaaaad idea.
Gottheimer and Lawler.
