Colin Allred announces 2026 U.S. Senate run in Texas

Colin Allred, a former U.S. Representative and ex-NFL linebacker, has announced he will run for U.S. Senate in 2026. Allred's run comes after he narrowly lost to Republican Sen. Ted Cruz in the November 2024 election.

Allred, a Democrat, previously served three terms in the U.S. House of Representatives.

What they're saying: "Washington is broken and the system is rigged — and Texas families are paying the price. Today I'm announcing I'm running for the U.S. Senate because Texans deserve someone who will fight for them," Allred said in a post to X.

Who will Allred run against? Allred is the first big-name Democrat to announce a run for the 2026 Senate race. Others believed to be considering a Democratic primary challenge include former Congressmen Beto O'Rourke and Joaquin Castro, as well as Texas Rep. James Talarico.

On the Republican side, the primary battle has already begun, with state Attorney General Ken Paxton and incumbent Sen. John Cornyn, who is in his fourth term, headlining the race.

Allred's political background Allred first announced a run for Congress in 2017. He won the Democratic primary in a runoff and went on to defeat incumbent Republican Pete Sessions in 2018. Sessions had represented the 32nd district since its creation in 2003.

Upon his arrival in Congress, Allred was elected as co-president of the Democratic freshman class. The Dallas Congressman consistently voted with President Joe Biden during his time in office but drew attention in January when he was one of three Texas Democrats who voted for a resolution denouncing "the Biden administration's open-borders policies."

Both progressive Senate candidate Roland Gutierrez and Sen. Ted Cruz criticized that vote. Gutierrez stated that Allred "sided with GOP extremists," while the Cruz campaign called the vote a "disingenuous attempt to posture on the border."

Ken Paxton will beat whoever the Democrats put up there. It’s time to de-RINO-ify Texas.

“after he narrowly lost to Republican Sen. Ted Cruz…”

53%-44% is a real squeaker.

Allred's run comes after he narrowly lost to Republican Sen. Ted Cruz in the November 2024 election.WTF????

U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz defeats Democrat Colin Allred

U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz easily defeated U.S. Rep. Colin Allred on Tuesday, defying another spirited and well-funded effort to turn Texas blue and preserving his status as a leading conservative voice in American politics.

"The results tonight, this decisive victory, should shake the Democrat establishment to its core," he said in a speech to supporters at his campaign watch party in downtown Houston.

The Associated Press called his victory after 10 p.m. as Cruz was leading by more than double digits.

later in the article:

“Cruz performed significantly better against Allred in 2024 than he did against O’Rourke six years prior, notably showing a much stronger performance in largely Hispanic counties along the border.”

I was thinking that, too.

Cruz won by a near landslide.

53%-44% is a real squeaker.

That qualifies as a landslide today.

Hopefully, but we will again have to vote for Cornyn if he is the nominee. Allred is ALL RED.

I’ve been seeing about Traumatic Brain Injury in NFL players. Colon All Red needs to be examined to see if he has the mental capacity to serve if elected.

Why do these losers keep coming back for another bite of the same apple. He is no better than O’Rourke.

“Washington is broken and the system is rigged...”

And I promise to fix the system...sometime around my 15th term, once i’ve accumulated enough dough.

>> Allred’s run comes after he narrowly lost to Republican Sen. Ted Cruz in the November 2024 election.

“Narrowly lost”? Bullshit.

“Early polling showed Cruz as a clear favorite, but polls closer to the election showed a closer race. Cruz ultimately outperformed polling and expectations and won re-election by 8.49 points, improving on his 2018 margin by six points and flipping thirteen counties. Cruz won a majority of Hispanic and Latino voters in the election.”

So.... Nine points is a "narrow loss"?

Democrats never fight for the people they present themselves as being for.

They fight for their own special interest groups that ensure them a permanent cush job that they never have to actually work at but can provide them with all kinds of kickbacks to fill their own personal bank accounts with.
