NYC’s massive $116B budget cracks down on e-bikes, includes $10M for universal childcare — and millions for immigrant services

Mayor Eric Adams on Friday struck a handshake deal with the City Council on a record-breaking nearly $116 billion budget — which would create a new department to regulate e-bikes, sources said.

The tentative agreement includes $6.1 million for a new “Department of Sustainable Delivery,’’ which would be staffed by 60 people and dedicated to e-bike regulation and enforcement after a recent push by the Adams administration to rein in the two-wheelers.

City Hall also agreed to give the council a major boost in funding for immigration services to the tune of $54.5 million, a source familiar with the deal said.

“That is more than any other major city in America,” Adams said of the overall immigration pot of money.

Dem Council Speaker Adrienne Adams, who made a late bid for the Democratic mayoral primary, and Democratic Councilman Justin Brannan, the finance chair, were adamant about securing the immigration and child-care funding as top priorities, sources said.

The spending plan will also include $10 million for a universal-child-care pilot program — after the issue became a hot topic in the Democratic mayoral primary race.

The budget includes an agreement to spend $2 million to expand service to seven days a week for 10 libraries citywide, a $755 million plan for after-school programs for kindergarten through eighth grade, adding 170 Parks and Recreation workers and hiring as many as 3,700 new teachers to slash class sizes.

When did the American taxpayers decide on “immigrant services?” I thought they came here to keep from being killed by their governments and cartels. We never had a vote on ILLEGAL “immigrants” either. Whose country is this?

The shyster lawyers sure are cleaning up in America these days. They, instead of the people who actually did something for a living, have become the new billionaires and millionaires. There’s a lot of big bucks to be swindled out of the taxpayers for the illegal alien industry these days. Here in Texas the shyster Mexican lawyers are rushing north and are flooding the boob with ads to get in on the “immigration”/foreign invasion swindle.

My grandparents and their young family arrived at Ellis Island in 1927. The NYC “Immigration Services” back then were “get to work or starve.” It built Americans.

Open borders and a welfare state is working out real well for New Yorkers.

And if this dude gets elected mayor, how much more will he have to raise taxes to pay for his socialism.?

And what about that old saying that socialism fails when you run out of other people’s money? On one of those roundtable discussions on CNN, someone was saying that since New Yorkers are already paying very high taxes, that some incremental increases in those taxes are not going to cause people to move away.

I heard he was quoted as saying something about raising property taxes in wealthier and or whiter neighborhoods.

I also heard New York City has a city income tax, which is levied on residents over and above the New York state income tax they are already paying.

I have to wonder how this dude plans to balance his budget.

Of course, that can all be avoided, if New Yorkers fail to elect him.

Ebikes are a menace they can go 30+ mph if you take the limiter off. People zip down the sidewalks with them at literal breakneck speeds. They are nearly silent too you don’t hear a yahoo coming up behind you that’s going to smash you down and break bones.

Ebikes have no place in a pedestrian based city.

I would have no objection if they are confined to the roadways in NYC. What is NOT needed is a regulatory agency.
