GOP senators push back HARD on Medicaid cuts, endangering Trump bill
The Hill ^ | 06/26/25 6:00 AM ET | by Alexander Bolton

Republican senators are pushing back hard on hundreds of billions of dollars in Medicaid cuts included in the Senate version of President Trump’s budget reconciliation package, endangering Senate Majority Leader John Thune’s (R-S.D.) plan for a vote as soon as Friday.

Two Republicans are a hard “no” on the bill — Sens. Rand Paul (Ky.) and Ron Johnson (Wis.) — and a handful of other Republicans won’t say whether they’ll vote to begin debate on the package because they are concerned that deep cuts in Medicaid spending could cause millions of Americans to lose their coverage and push scores of rural hospitals around the country into bankruptcy.

Sens. Susan Collins (R-Maine) and Josh Hawley (R-Mo.) declined to say Wednesday whether they would vote to proceed to the bill if their concerns about Medicaid cuts remain unsolved.

establish a $15 billion health care provider relief fund, but Collins said it wouldn’t be adequate to keep many rural hospitals from going out of business.

A Republican senator familiar with the Finance Committee’s proposal said roughly half of the fund would be available to rural hospitals around the country, and the other half would be targeted to specific hospitals chosen by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.

Collins said the proposal falls far short of what’s needed.

“I believe we need [a] $100 billion provider-relief fund. I don’t think that solves the entire problem. The Senate cuts in Medicaid are far deeper than the House cuts, and I think that’s problematic as well,” Collins said.

“Obviously any money is helpful but not if it is not adequate. But I do not know for certain that that is where the Finance Committee has landed,” she said of the Finance panel’s concession.

Collins, who faces reelection next year in a state former Vice President Kamala Harris won in 2024, declined to say how she would vote on the motion to proceed but emphasized she has major concerns with the bill

Based on the senator’s response, they must be getting funds through that mechanism, directly or indirectly.

Near as I can tell, the biggest complaint (called 'cuts") is the work requirement.

So they're asking people to make an effort towards productivity in exchange for their medical care.

These Senators seem to want us to be a nation of bums.

Four no’s would fail the 60 vote reqmt.

Note that because 3 Dem House members have died and their seats are vacant, the count there is 220-212 and 4 votes can be lost (Massie, MTG, ???) and still pass . . . whatever comes from the Senate (and whatever comes from the Senate will be much less desirable than what passed the House by 1 vote).

So in a general way, by virtue of 3 deaths, the Senate is the greater challenge. Massie, MTG + 2 SALT seats in NY and Calif . . . can probably be achieved.

Four senators with 2 already a hard No is more challenging.

Overall, this bill, if it passes, will pass only because some Democrats died in seats with huge Dem majority. Their Special Election for replacement is not until Sept and Nov.

The USA is going bankrupt and these drunk idiot senators want to keep borrowing and spending, more and more into infinity.

When the collapse comes, there won’t be ANY hospitals anywhere to treat American citizens (let alone illegal aliens).

Fools, all of them, fools. /double and triple spit

You keep pushing how rand paul is being a true ‘conservative’, by voting no against the budget bill because he because he wants no expansion in the debt ceiling....

except grandstanding, little big man syndrome rand paul has, one by one, also said he is voting no because

he says he wants cuts in overall spending...

then he says he opposes increases in military spending

then he then wants big cuts in the border wall funding

he also wants to halve the funding for the border patrol budget

now wants to keep spending up for medicare... and for illegal aliens?

for rand paul, it’s all media appearances and excuses anyway.....

rand was never going to vote for Trump’s budget

Chuckie Schumer probably got an offer from Trump he could not refuse, making him sick, so to speak.

The old mafia deal; STFU and go away quietly, and we will not prosecute you for your illegal activities while in government, such as self-enrichment schemes, J-6, etc.

At least he lured Rubio away from the Rino Card in the Senate.

Putting the screws to low hanging fruit without scaring the herd of thieves is Trump’s main task.

There will be a day, maybe just after the mid-terms where Trump begins to prosecute former USG officials for their activities, which will move the needle a bit towards his grip; later, he must prosecute Nancy Pelosi for her self-enrichment and stock trading. 98% of them are corrupted and vote the way they do/due to being compromised by the two party’s.

Most of these cuts are hitting illegals, not citizens!

Also, why is FedGov funding rural hospitals? If they can’t survive, they need to trim down and reduce expenses. And let the State cover down on them. Not a power FedGov has.

That’s a nice thought. If it were true would congress slash spending by 30%+, or just maintain current spending, or blow spending through the roof like Trump’s-BBB, or like any republican, or like all democrats?

The Stupid Party (as usual fails to mention) that Clinton had adopted some sort of “workfare policy” whereby you had to work part time I order to get freebies.

THE ENDLESS DRAIN ON OUT MEDICAL SERVICES BY INVADERS-—WHICH IS WHAT THEY ARE-—WILL NEVER END IF CONGRESS DOESN’T STGOP IT NOW-—

IT IS ALREADY OUT OF CONTROL.

SOMEONE CANNOT ENTER MY PROPERTY WITHOUT PERMISSION
SOMEONE CANNOT TAKE THE CONTENTS OF MY CUPBOARDS
SOMEONE CANNOT TAKE THE CONTENTS OF MY TOOL BOXES
SOMEONE CANNOT TAKE MY VEHICLES
THEY CANNOT TAKE MY MONEY-—

BUT, UNDER BIDEN & THE DEMS -—THEY CERTAINLY HAVE TAKEN CONTROL OF THE HEALTH MONEY IN THE USA & ARE STEALING THOSE OF US WHO WORKED A LIFETIME BLIND.

THIS INVASION ISN’T JUST ABOUT THE CRIME SEEN EVERYDAY ON THE STREETS-—

THIS IS A MORE HIDDEN THEFT OF SERVICES THAT IS BEING DRAINED.

IT NEVER SHOULD HAVE STARTED-—

NOW-—IT MUST BE STOPPED -—BY ANY MEANS NECESSARY

I thought Rand Paul wanted steeper cuts in Medicaid. He wants the states to take on at least half of the spending.
