Trump: U.S. may provide Ukraine with more Patriot missiles
The Washington Times ^ | Wednesday, June 25, 2025 | Susan Ferrechio

President Trump said Wednesday the United States may provide Ukraine with additional defensive missiles to intercept Russian air attacks.

The president, speaking at a press conference in the Netherlands where he was attending a NATO summit, said Ukraine is seeking more Patriot missiles as the war with Russia drags on into a fourth year.

“They do want to have the anti-missile missiles, as they call them, the Patriots. And we’re going to see if we can make some available,” Mr. Trump said. “You know, they’re very hard to get.”

Mr. Trump said the U.S. is supplying Patriot missiles to Israel, but that Ukraine wants them “more than any other thing.”

The latest Patriot missiles are considered the best defense equipment for stopping the Russian air assault. Ukraine is incapable of producing such an advanced air defense system and must be supplied with the missiles from the United States or European allies.

The president’s statement came after he held an off-camera meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who was at the NATO summit.

Mr. Trump characterized the meeting with Mr. Zelenskyy as “very nice.” The sideline chat followed a diplomatic blow-up earlier this year at the White House, which Mr. Trump called “a little bit of rough times.”

The two men last met in April at the Vatican during the funeral of Pope France.

Mr. Trump has been unable to broker a peace deal between Russia and Ukraine but said after speaking privately with Mr. Zelenskyy that it could still happen.

“What I took from the meeting is they’d like to see it end,” he said.

Neither side is serious about peace. Can’t we just walk away from this or is Poland being threatened?

Well, now we know who lost the battle (if this happens).

It’s all up to Russia now.

Not unless they pay for them up front.

Any Patriot missiles we can spare (if we can spare any) should obviously being going to Israel instead of Ukraine.

Neither side is serious about peace.

And what do you want Ukraine to do, surrender? Because that is the only option that Russia is giving them?

All that matters is that there is a another order for more missiles needing to be built and purchased.

If the ceasefire holds the business of death is going to drop. Time to market more elsewhere.

The MIC owns this country and our president lock, stock, and barrel... This was just too predictable...

We need to induce Russia to throw Iran under the bus. We do that by ending sanctions and removing ourselves from Ukraine, not by giving Lyndsey Graham what he wants.

“may provide”

Trump wants something, I wonder what it is.

It’s not a gift but a sale. I believe the Europeans are using interest from seized Russian assets to buy them.

I don’t like it but surrender will be the ultimate outcome whatever he does. If there is no chance of winning, it becomes difficult to justify allowing more and more of your countrymen to die.

Having a chance to win is one of the conditions of just war.

That's not "obvious" to me.

It's not either/or.

Russia isn’t like the USA, we get sick of a war and pull out and go home. Russians think they are home and will stay for a long time. Best to make a deal now before the Russian t-90 tanks are rolling in Kiev. No good guys here.

The lessons America and its European and Pacific allies have learned from this Russian invasion will keep their weapon factories producing product for many years, China and Russia and North Korea can’t be happy by this new readiness push for the foreseeable future.

Exactly where will Trump get those. Our stocks here are depleted and will take years to build back up. We have been supplying Ukraine and Israel for the last 3 years.

If you have not been paying attention, the Ukrainians have been holding off the Russians for over three years, and there are no signs of an imminent collapse. The vaunted Russian summer offense has been stopped in its tracks.

The Russian economy, on the other hand, is starting to implode. They are quickly running out of money. Even their Minister of Economic Development is warning that Russia is on the verge of slipping into a recession. It is clear that Russia does not have the resources to achieve its objectives.
