Graham: Trump ‘had all the authority he needs under the Constitution’ for Iran strikes

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) in a Sunday morning interview pushed back on claims that President Trump acted outside his Constitutional authority by ordering strikes on Iran.

“No, he was within his Article II authority,” Graham said in an interview on NBC News’s “Meet the Press,” when asked if Trump violated the U.S. Constitution by “acting unilaterally.”

“Congress can declare war or cut off funding,” Graham continued. “We can’t be the commander in chief. You can’t have 535 commander in chiefs.”

“If you don’t like what the president does, in terms of war, you can cut off the funding. But declaring war is left of the Congress. We’ve declared war five times in the history of America. All of these other military operations were lawful.”

“He had all the authority he needs under the Constitution. They are wrong,” he added, referring to critics who say Trump should have sought congressional approval before ordering strikes on the three Iranian nuclear sites this weekend.

Ridiculous coming from a U.S. senator. He's lost it.

Paucity of opposition within that State does not help matters

I hope he attracts a decent challenger like Cornyn in Texas

We knew this would be his answer. Someone needs to ask Graham if there is any situation where Graham thinks that the president doesn’t have authority to take military action. Can a president sink a Russian or Chinese ship or bomb one of their bases? I guess Graham already answered that question when it comes to Russia - yes.

Even a sphincter can say something right every single once in a while…

Graham is a media whore but he is right about supporting Trump here.

there have been only 5 ‘declared’ wars in US history...
the vietnam ‘conflict’ was an undeclared war.

Democrats ran undeclared wars MOST of our history.
Libertarians and their commie buddies, anarchists, and some indepents... want to accuse the president they HATE of something and then attack him legally, politically and morally for doing his job.

Iran’s political and religious leadership declared ‘war’ on the USA and our allies, over and over and over again.

They threatened to attack us, and may still do so via whatever contrivance they can concoct. They DID attack us via their KNOWN proxies.

This was an act of self defense—
The world’s anti American network of America haters— are pulling their eyeballs out, over the fact that AMERICA has said, enough is enough— and largely begun an effective dismantling campaign.

Lindsey won’t get re-elected very easily. Hes a wind sock, he moves where ever the wind blows, and he’s burned too many bridges with trump supporters. He was all for convicting j6r’s. And supporting Joe Biden
He was against trump until he was for him. Hes a noodle. A gay noodle

The ridiculous comments are from the “special rules just for President Trump” isolationist crowd. Trump has already bombed the hell out several countries, often let’s face it with less justification, less warning, and less clear-cut threat to the security of the United States. Anyone who didn’t have constant meltdowns and calls for his impeachment for each of these bombings is just a hypocrite now.

And the idea of Democrats pretending like Trump didn’t have the authority to do this after all the countries that Biden, Obama, and Clinton bombed without Congressional approval is absolutely the height of hypocrisy and ridiculousness.

This is no different than all the efforts to steal normal presidential powers away from Trump but only Trump that we see coming from activist judges. The majority of presidents since WWII have bombed or otherwise attacked other countries without a Congressional declaration of war. No more special rules just for Trump.
