FOX 7 has obtained documents related to the arrest of the man who allegedly made threats against lawmakers ahead of a protest at the Texas Capitol.
What we know: On Saturday, June 14, state troopers pulled over a blue Audi A6 that was traveling west on SH 71 toward Austin in Fayette County.
The troopers had been informed that the vehicle was connected to threats against lawmakers.
Robert Bowers was driving the Audi, which was traveling 81 miles per hour in a 75 mile per hour zone without a front license plate.
Bowers told troopers he was on his way to Austin to peacefully take part in the protests.
A Fayette County arrest report notes that Bowers had a 9mm handgun and was wearing black pants with apparent knee pads and heavy-duty boots.
According to the documents, Texas DPS CID agents told troopers they received tips that Bowers had sent messages to a friend that "were interpreted as wishing to inflict harm to state elected officials and politicians in Austin."
Previous, DPS said a concerned citizen reached out to local authorities about the alleged threats.
Robert Bowers was arrested and charged with operating a motor vehicle with one plate.
"The arrest was made out of an abundance of caution for the safety of the public," the affidavit notes.
No charges related to the alleged threat have been filed.
After learning of the threats, Texas DPS evacuated the Capitol and Capitol grounds around 1 p.m. and closed for investigation.
Bowers was arrested at 1:31 p.m., according to the arrest affidavit.
The Capitol building and grounds were closed but reopened in time for the "No Kings" rally and protests at 5 p.m.

Was he going to shoot them or perform a sexual act?
Beware of those Knee Pads. They can leap right up out of a car and attack you. They’re positively deadly
I don’t get scared by knee pads but when I see heavy duty boots I run like hell.
“”with apparent knee pads and heavy-duty boots. “”
Nice that they threw Bowers friend under the bus like that. They could have kept the part about the tip quiet. That sort of thing will have a chilling effect on people reporting concerns. All they had to do was say they pulled him over for going over the speed limit.
Charged doing 81 mph in 75 mph zone while driving with knee pads…. 😱
In Texas, 81 Mph is slow.
Lock him up.
Knee pads eh?
One of those no doubt.
Some years ago my father and uncle were driving across America, going from North Carolina en route to visit a fellow knifemaker in Arizona. Somewhere in Texas Dad was pulled over for speeding. The trooper asked what were they doing in his neck of the woods. Dad started talking about his knifemaking and showed the patrolman some of his work. The trooper said that those were some beautiful knives and then let Dad off with a warning and wished them well on their trip.
Totally cool!
Your dad sounds like he was a true craftsman.
Yep, they’ll chase your ass. I’ve seen it. And some of ‘em are pretty fast.
I guess this country needs “Knee pad control laws.” Yes, we need waiting periods on the purchase of knee pads, and more importantly we need background checks on people who want to buy knee pads.
I’m just here for the jokes
It’s TEXAS, Everyone has a Gun.
No comment on the knee pads.
No front License Plate is a problem. They issue License Plates in pairs and they expect you to put 1 on the front and 1 on the back of the vehicle. I have been stopped for no front plate Myself.
Nowadays it’s kinda irrelevant because they have Readers in LEO Vehicles that Scan both (Tags and Inspection) of the Stickers on the front windshield. They used to use the Front Plate to get info if you were driving opposite of them.
Now it’s still on the books apparently for revenue purposes and the occasional arrest.
Don’t forget the missing front plate!
So, he was going to take part in the protests on “No Kings” day. Guess we can figure which side of the aisle he comes from, so, BLAME THE GUN!
